EDC III Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

I've batonned through adhesive concrete, cut nails, pulled nails, notched door frames, cut solid 12 gauge copper wire, batonned wood, cut stainless steel braided hose, and a bundle of other things

Why? I'm rough on my knives but I also have the correct tools for other jobs. I don't cut wire/nails/concrete and other stuff just to look cool. I'm all for using knives, they are tools, but I'm starting to think some guys misuse or abuse their knives because they think it looks badass or to justify having it.

Why do we need cars that can exceed the speed limit? Why do we need to chop our own wood when stores sell it with no risk? Why do we need to cook when you can buy premade food? Why do we need to run every day when we don't actually need to? Why do we need 6" HD phones screens when rotary phones and TV's work fine?

Not so sure why you find it necessary to be emasculating in regards to how I use my tools, but I was asked how it happened. Next time I guess I should just reply with "I'm a wanna be badass" so I can save everyone some time?

In reality, knives fascinate me in their durability and modularity. Consider it a hobby to know exactly what my belongings are capable of. I carry a knife on me at all times. I can't say the same of a saw, screwdriver, hammer, pry bar, wire cutters, tin snips, etcetera. The right knife can do all of those things in a pinch if need be, and it gives me peace of mind knowing it's abilities.

I searched high and low and finally found the SAK I was looking for. I have been carrying this sweet stag handled Swisschamp since I got it. It has amazing looking stag and is the much rarer model with the toothpick and tweezers included.

Of course I had to make a nice lanyard to go with it.

Today was one of my basic workday carries. Working in construction is cool for a knife person as I actually get to use and enjoy these tools everyday.

ZT 350 (deassisted): cut frozen heavy gauge rope and vapour barrier, broke ice off a generator with the pommel
Kershaw Cryo: cut small slots in tarps to tie up some weather blockers, cut zip ties, removed a splinter

Well said, bravo sir.

I think saying why use a chainsaw when a pickup truck could knock over a tree would fit the response better. It'd work but it would be kinda silly. But you're right it's yours so do as you like but don't be surprised when others respond as they do.

That's one of the sickest looking knives I've seen in a long time. Even the pivot screw head appears to be sheared off. Well done.
Nope, the finish is just a little worn.

To the people giving me flack, aside from the tip breaking from an accidental fall, this knife has done everything I've asked it to without fail. Sure, cutting cardboard and trimming your nails is normal knife use, but I know exactly what I can rely on my knives for in an emergency, I know I got my money's worth, and I had fun doing it.

So I say enjoy cutting open envelopes and taking pretty pictures of your unworn EDC. Lint is the least of my worries and while you consider what I do to be abuse, I ask you how come I've had no failures? How come my knives are still buttery smooth yet the lockup is as tight as can be? Why can they still shave hair off a fly's butt? It is the right tool for the job if it can do that job regularly with ease and without issue.

:)
