EDC III Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

LOL, hey thanks. It took me a while to find one of these benchmades, but I love it.
The scales are something I play around with as a side hobby for my knives that need some flair. Its fun and rewarding.

I have been looking at the shuffle for a while now. For less than $20 its a sweet little blade. and the lanyard ring/pry tool/flathead is no small addition. Will definitely pick one up from walmart next time I wander over to the sporting goods dept.

Honestly, I wasn't going to buy the Shuffle because of where it's made, but admittedly I can be swayed by a tight little product which this knife is. I asked to see if behind the counter at Wally World, and the instant I flicked it open in my hand and it seated with my fingers using those two choils...yeah, I had to have it. I've used the bottle-opener numerous times, and that screwdriver/pry tool as well. I would recommend this little knife to anyone for a small, don't-quite-need-a-multitool-and-don't-really-like-SAKs sort of thing.

Do you find that the bottle opener digs into your palm at all when using the knife?

I honestly don't, because I tend to hold this knife canted an angle in my grip. If I did hold it "regularly", I'd probably have to say yes. I DO think that is a valid concern for others to be aware of, because it's something I've seen mentioned often when I was reading reviews of this knife after the sale. I know, I know. I usually do my research beforehand, but this was an impulse buy. That said, I definitely recommend testing it out if you see it. It's not a hard use knife, it's a envelope slicer/thread snipper/box opener for me, and that's about it.

Here's a pic of me holding it like I normally do. As you can see, the bottle opener never actually comes into contact with my palm.

What steel does this particular ZT use mate?

And what are your thoughts on the blade coating/pattern thing?

Cheers
The 0301 uses S30V steel.
I can't speak for someone else's opinion, but the coating is Tungsten DLC which is very strong.

Ah, good steel then and no real need for the coating and choice of pattern really?

I'm curious more as to why rather than if it's good. My taste would dictate to avoid anything with an unnecessary paintjob , as this merely advertises to niche markets rather than the more practically focused one.

I do like the knife, but I have a feeling I'd prefer it with out the cowting .. Just a thought.

I carried one of these little dudes around work for a few months before paying it forward to another member. I can honestly say the bottle opener never dug into my palm. I never dealt with any discomfort while using this knife, but everyone's hands are different. I used it with and without gloves at work (which practically made it disappear!)

Excellent choice, Rider! Hands down this is my favorite Kershaw design. I'll probably throw mine in my pocket tomorrow ;)

Whatsup, Nikki? Full size or mini Grip? I can't tell...
