I did it with a needle engraver, you could probably do it with PCB etchant but idk if you could get the lines as close. Well I guess you could make the design on the blade using some sort of vinyl tape or something like that to mask off the pattern you wanted then dip the whole thing. (Not sure if vinyl holds up to the acid but I'm sure there's something that would work).C_k, I know you said that you engraved the Shallot's black blade, but have you done uncoated blade's? I have thought about trying to do design's on a blade or two to see what it will look like. Of course I have some cheap knives to practice on! I have thought about using PCB Etchant from Radio Shack. Is this how you do, if you have tried uncoated blade's, it?
The Shallot really does look good.
