EDC Knife.... for August...

Mine started out as a Bucklite max 486, then I found a 1969ish 110 hunter. Then I decided that I didn't want to mess up the old 110 so I decided to carry my new 110. Then I figured my old 112 Ranger would be a nice compomise so I edc'd that. Then I decided my old 112 ranger didn't need to get messed either so I carried my new 112 Ranger.
Then I decided I liked the longer blade and pocket clip of the bucklite max 486 and it's just so handy with the pocket clip........
The 486 Bucklite Max is the ugliest, most handy knife I seem to own.
:)

WOW, glad you found one you can carry.

Pocket clips are a love 'em/hate 'em thing I guess. They don't work for me.

Luckily for me, I have a dremmel tool.

I got a 486 a while back as I wanted something a bit longer for backpacking than my 482.

1) I took the dremmel to the rivets and the clip came off. Easy cheesy.

2) Next, the blade when in my wood protected ski vice and I put vice grips on the nasty thumb-studs. As I suspect, they were just press fit together and popped off easily. There's a small machined hole, but that's still better than studs.

3) I took my files to the back of the spine and flattened and de-humped the spine. It's still not the prettiest blade ever made but it no longer has that nasty angular feel to it.

The 486 and 482 aren't pretty knives, but man, I love using them. Great feel in the hand and the best value I can think of in a knife (along with Opinels).

Any pics... I try to use the same Buck knife for a month or two... everyone is different... :D

Different strokes!

This is the main part of the pack. The 110 was in the pocket often during vacation. Now it's riding as back up in my day pack and near at hand.

The EDC in the RFP is typically one of the other 3, plus the new to me Ecolite 112/442. Others that get used regularly (but not so much this month for some reason are a Schrade 5OT (like a green 501) and an Opinel #8.

I'm alternating between my Buck 309 and Case 109. They have different personalities, but I like 'em both.

I also have a 444 and a 340. I prefer the 309 to EDC by a big margin for now.

I like the looks of your 109... But don't tell anyone... :)

It's Too Early, you a coin roll hunter? :) I sort dimes occasionally. Randomly got a very good merc in my change a month back.

I buy some rolls from the bank now and than... You can still find some nice coins if you look... I hit the coin shop as much as I can... I like there half off box... ;)

Cool color. Nice work with the dye. Did you dismantle the scales and use heat in the process? And you are right, custom scales would be welcome. THX.

I did take the scales off and used boiling hot water. I have seen vids of people dunking the whole knife. I wasn't sure how the paper thin nylon washers on the force would hold up to the heat.

I Armand,

Here is what I have had as my EDC's this month.
337 in my pants pocket at work and at play.

AG 110 on my side off and on this month.

I always wear sweat pants in the house during the winter, and shorts made of the same light cotton type material during the warm months. These light weight cotton shorts/sweats are to light weight to carry my normal EDC knives. So I got a 301 and 303 to carry in my light cotton elastic band house shorts/sweats, these two knives are so light in weight I don't even notice I have them.

This has been mine for a few years now, and likely a few more. Once a month or so I may p/up a different one for the day, but this is my EDC.

st8yd, nice stag EDC... On the coins just buy a box of Dimes ($250) from the bank and go through them and than just take them back to a different bank and try again... I also find old coins at yard sales and swap meets and so on, just like Buck Knives... :)

Hmmm, I remember that my wife had a couple of rolls of dimes that she had when we got married in '62. I'll have to see if I can locate them. She never got rid of anything like that, so I'm sure they're tucked away here somewhere.
