I want to be a romantic... With rotating, ornate, bone-handled, pretty knives...

But I'm boring and pragmatic / practical.

I've analyzed my needs and carry several functional blade geometries on me at all times.

I hate not having the right tool for the job on me, when I know I have it at home....

I could probably distill it down to 3 (BK-14, SAK Electrician and Spyderco Salt 2), but still find uses for a warncliffe, hawkbill, something with serious belly, etc.

I only pare them down if I can't get away with a horizontal belt carry somewhere, or I'm traveling

My travel EDC depends on local laws

I don't go to large, crowded events anymore and I don't do bars / nightclubs or protests, where having a knife on you if hell breaks loose, can lead to serious trouble.

A knife is an amazing emergency tool.

I STRONGLY believe that everyone should carry a knife... They should get REAL familiar with it and also keep it handy / accessible in the same spot, as much as possible.

At least with your primary blade. Rotate the rest, if you must.

Just my approach and opinion.

I have a lot knives, but there's only a few that end up getting carried regularly, and it's nothing like a rotation. I may carry a certain knife for a month, or change to another after a day or two.

Don't really have a set rotation. I pick out what I think will be best suited for the day...for purposes of your poll, I suppose that means daily.

I don't really rotate in that sense.

I have my typical edc and I stick with that unless it's not appropriate in some unusual way.

1 fixed blade, 2 folders. I don't really use the folders, but they are so inconsequentially light that it makes no sense not to.

My Neon and my Gerber crucial are always with me. I switch out the bigger knife as the whim hits. I stay with the 5 Shiro's though. The rest just sit in the drawer.

I don't rotate my actual outdoor/ outside the house carry knives .

I've often carried the same two or three for years at time , but sometimes I do change to a different one . One at a time , never more !

If you don't want to fumble around in an emergency / SD type situation , it's best to be well practiced and deeply familiar with your tools and consistent in how you carry them (and "deploy").

I do rotate my "current play selections " that I have out for easy access inside the home and shop . Usually carry them at home , inside . Brand new ones for breaking-in as well as old favorites just to play with . But no real logical pattern to that rotation , only whim . ;)

Whenever it needs to be sharpened! I tend to check my blades in the morning and IF I'm not satisfied with the edge I Swap it out for one of my "on Deck" knives.

The "Backup" Knife for my Griptillion is the knife it replaced, a Kershaw #3840 "Freefall", the backup for my other EDC "main knife" (a #7008CuD2 Large Natrix Copper D2)
Kershaw/Emerson CQC11K-D2

I have never needed to go to a tertiary choice for the "Freefall" as I have three of them, but if the CQC11K's edge requires attention, Next is the CQC4XLK-D2

I rotate between weekly office work and harder use weekend yard work. These days it really just rotating a Hinderer XM-18 Skinny slicer during the week to a XM-18 non-skinny slicer for tougher weekend jobs. Oh and I also bring out my Becker BK9 on the weekends for fun chopping.

So what's the latest iteration...
For the past year it's been a SAK Spartan. The year before was a Spartan with the opener layer removed but I realised that I needed additional tools more and more and I use multiple tools/blades on the Spartan on a daily basis. I'm currently looking at creating a SAK Mechanic to add pliers to the Spartan's tool set and that might end up replacing the Spartan.

I switch up pretty regularly. Try to carry something different every day. I have 30+ knives and enjoy carrying and using all of them. I've also always carried a SAK huntsman or tinker for decades. My money clip also has a small blade too.

My time is split between upstate NY and NYC so I tend to modify my selection for edc based upon that. Most of the city time is in Staten Island, the forgotten Boro of NYC. At least there for the most part people remember that your feelings don't come before my rights. Not so with the other 4!!

Lots of people don't have a set rotation. I've heard lots of people say that some of their knives don't get carried so they sell them. That sounded so sad to me that I put my knives in a rotation and that way they all get carried and used.

I have way to many knives and I can go a few years or so carrying just a few of them

my 80% of the time carry is a small fixed blade worn horizontal crossdraw

it’s been this piece on my belt for about a year

Mirabile Cable Wharnie

The other 10% of the time it’s a folder and my favorite folder for edc is a Syderco Yojimbo

‘the other 10% of the time is say when I have to wear a suit and than it might be something like this from Gudy or Matt
