EDC Pens

This one's not as practical as some of my other pens, but I enjoy fiddling with the bolt action.

Here's a close-up of the bolt mechanism.

I had been thinking about getting myself a pen that would potentially last me a long time if I don't lose it. I did a little research and decided on this Boker Plus K.I.D. Cal .50 bolt action pen. I like the design and it was in my price range.

I've had it about two weeks and the supplied ink cartridge was satisfactory but I bought a couple of Space Pen refills and I'm using one of those now.

Nice little pen for the price. I found it at Grand Prairie Knives for less than $50 shipped.

I have to agree....I have been using this Boker .50 cal for 4 months straight in a hospital and Clinic setting, writing lengthy patient notes daily and it has performed flawlessly with the Fisher Space Pen ink refill... Besides the aesthetic appeal, the ability to use Fisher ink refills was the biggest reason I bought this pen... Clip is great, very strong... Overall very sturdy and could be used for self defense if needed

Yep, I've been using mine everyday at work since I made that post. About 10 months now. The finish has held up much better than I thought it would. Aside from a couple of dings from being dropped on the warehouse floor mine still looks virtually brand new.

I'm a little disappointed in the Space Pen refills though. I had no prior experience with them. I bought 3 of them when I first got the pen and I'm already on the third one. They perform just fine. No complaints there but the reviews I read had me thinking that I might get a year out of one refill.

No worries though. I chose this pen because I thought it was something that would hold up for the long haul. I'm inclined to believe that I made a good choice. It's fun to use too.

this is real EDC because it is keychain. i made a nice post around it on the geman knife forum. photo proving that the modded <inkless pen> can be attached directly to a keyring or with a paracord loop:

true EDC.

(btw the material is black alloy and woht break/crack on you under normal circumstances. to guarantee discoloration of your white jeans one could apply a layer of nail polish, i've tested it)

I have a few titanium pens but this Pentel Hexreform has become my most-carried pen. It is light, compact, and relatively comfortable for what it is. The clip retains well but is easy on my shirt pockets. Cap retention is decent and it posts. (Having a fancier/dressier capped pen that doesn't post has convinced me of that feature's importance.) I'm also in love with the needle-tip Energel refills.

While I've never lost an expensive pen, I know guys who have. The Hexreform does have to be specially ordered from Asia but it's only a $20 pen.

I've used one of these for years - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001E103CY?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 - it's a variation of the Fisher Space Pen. I also have a couple vintage Parker Jotters for "dress-up", but my new favorite is one of these - https://smoothprecisionpens.com/products/smooth-bolt-action-pen-2-1?variant=39997118677126 - I don't know why these haven't taken over the EDC pen world. They are very price competitive, the quality is outstanding as is the feel, and they use a wide variety of refills. To me, their bolt action design blows the others I've seen out of the park, and the action is as smooth as the finish on the pens. But beware! He keeps coming out with special limited editions that make me drool, these could be dangerous to your wallet! Coincidentally, he invites you to hie Facebook group once you buy and it seems many of his buyers are also knife nuts - I've seen some seriously gorgeous knives pictured there. Sorry for no pics, but it's late and I'm tired
