Taking a day off today with this rig in pockets the KTW fits nice in cargo shorts not heavy at all

Whats a "wire edge"?

A wire edge is basically what happens when when you sharpen and don't strop or clean off the burr somehow. The blade would feel sharp but the wire would fold over under stress and be very dull. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks! Ya something about the old pivot just says "the boss" like it should. ;). And after seeing those two together I think I'll be grabbing a soddie as well.

Indeed. Grab one. Grab two actually. I need one in micarta now because it just makes a "good" user a
"GREAT" user. :D

Just packing the #71 Bullnose today with a well behaved model to show it off!

Although it may look like this pic was taken with a potato, it was not. Just driving down those beautiful New England roads..

Great knife! I hope you actually use it, because I have a good idea of what that is worth:) Personally, I'd use the piss out of that bad boy!

Also, how the heck do you guys keep your Field Notes looking so brand new and pristine? Mine get worn to shreds in a few days lol! I keep em' in my back pocket for measurements and stuff.

I've found that *not* counting strokes makes the sharpening process a whole lot less frustrating. Easier to slip into the zen, I reckon... ;) I say keep at it, don't count, and you'll get there! Best of luck, sir, and I do like that new Sapphire Tinker of yours! Cheers!

The only reason I count strokes is to keep the edge centered. This reasoning assumes that the edge was centered to begin with.

Those three today. Probably the same tomorrow... Can't quit driving and touching that Buck's edge, there is something with this knife Quiet. Or with me... :D

Have you tried stropping it? Maybe it's time to take off your belt and show it who's bladeboss! :D Good luck!

:D yes I have.. I have a "Rite Edge" unloaded leather strop. It didn't change much. I tried the corner of the fine stones today. 40 degree slots, 45 strokes per side.
I just don't get it. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I used to sharpen my Native 5 CPMS35VN with it, and could shave with it afterwards.

Wire edge maybe? I'd try the fine stones for a good long time. Then strop the hell out of it.

Also the more you sharpen the larger the wire or burr therefore being a lot more stropping.
I DID IT!!!
It's sharp now. Not like a razor yet, but it is definitely sharp.
I put the medium stones on flat-side, and have each side 70 strokes or so. And then fine, and then stropping.
I'm thinking I may have used it too much when it was dull, and I had to reprofile it.
Thanks for all the help guys. This place it great.
Especially thanks to timberweasel and Blues Bender. I never gave wire edges much thought.
Now I can get my Sebbie back in my pocket. :D

Stan built this knife to be an EDC...stainless damascus bolsters and blade, titanium and stainless hardware. I use it for everything from food to strapping tape...Stan did ask me not to use a green scrubbie on it... :D

And for the field notes; I cut a strip out of this, wrap around the cover, fold over the edges then trim to shape. You'll never have that 'shredded cardboard' feel in your pocket again!
