EDC VI Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Small Sebenza and Three Sisters Forge Beast. Although it doesn't look like it in the photo, the Beast is larger than the Sebenza.

How do they compare? I've been thinking about getting a high end tactical folder and the small sebenza and the forge beast are both on the list.

Beautiful knife KaramVit!

I am carrying my Tobin Smith today, an absolutely fantastic knife that I don't carry nearly enough. (I may have too many knives )

That Tobin Smith is one classy folder! Someday Erik you will have to join me for lunch so we can discuss and drool over some knives. A grail was waiting for me at home today, Lightfoot Ground fighter with stag handles. Took me about 2 years to acquire this piece!

Don't mind my Uber-Tacticool gloves:D

Seriously jealous, I just cannot bring myself to use my higher end knives like you do. Most are regulated to evening and weekend duty.

It's easy! Just take your beater and retire it or throw it away, then use your "precious" as your beater. You'll get more attached to it, plus feel like you're getting your money's worth.
Thumbs up for knives with character!

They both are well made. The Beast has a thicker blade. The Sebenza is a better slicer.

Still those two, the Voyager with the new carpenter CTS BD1steel and the BT-70... Till my Fox Terzuola arrives some time next week... :D

But what if one's precious was bought with the specific intent of being pocket jewlery?

The most adversity one of my EDC knives sees is a hard plastic zip tie or hard plastic packaging. I guess I have the luxury of always being able to match the tool to the job in the sense that I never have any unexpected heavy duty cutting tasks where I would require anything more than the slipjoint/lock back I have on me. I've been edcing my Tidioute lock back all summer and all though the only visible wear is scratches to the bolster, shield, and scales from being in my pocket, the blade has developed a very nice patina.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's possible to use your "precious" as hard as you use your "beater" and still maintain almost new condition due to the light nature of one's cutting tasks and using pocket slips for protection.

The only difference in treatment/use is I carry the top two in pocket slips.

It's a little hard to tell from the picture but the top two are in pristine condition excluding minor patina on the northwoods while the bottom two have very scratched bolsters and scales.

Erik, that is one of the good things about a good sharp knife, that the cuts heal a lot faster. Congrats on scoring the Lightfoot! I have always liked his work.
This dang s30v Blur has taken over my pocket! To the cool dude on the exchange that I bought this from, I curse you and thank you at the same time. :D

Well, ok. If it was meant to be pocket jewelry, carry it but don't use it.
I don't think my statement really applies to you. (Since you don't have any "beaters") your cutting tasks are light duty, and you carry your knives in slip cases. Nothing wrong with that at all.
My knives see a lot of "adversity" and that's using them for their intended purpose. I just cut stuff. The wear builds up. It's cumulative.
I know some here would whip out a cheapo and cut something with it while their expensive "heavy duty knife" stays unmolested in their other pocket. Thats fine. It is, after all, their knife.
I was simply stating that if you want to really use a knife (and have it develop some character), then actually USE it. Use that knife instead of the cheap beater.
