In college, a photography major told me that taking good pictures is 5% the camera you use, 5% technique and 90% lighting.
It looks like YM is utilizing natural light, which is some of the best lighting you can use; granted that you're using the right angles.
You're right on. I've noticed lighting makes all the difference. It's also why JCPennys does better with family photos than I can.
