The Spartan is still called the Spartan - ref:
I thought it was called the Standard before it was the Spartan. But I also read somewhere, maybe here, that the Standard didn't have the t&t.

Interesting about the Camper. I've never seen that before.

Good memory Frank - almost right.

I thought the same way too and had to check -
Scan from Victorinox brochure circa 1988
Vic88_Spartan.jpg

As you see the Spartan was the Standard plus the keyring, and the t&t (toothpick & tweezers)
and the Spartan was a model while the Standard was still current.

Here are a couple more scans of the Spartan from older catalogs -
1982 dealer's catalog -

early 80's(?) Victorinox brochure photocopy that you sent me.....

You'll notice these older Spartans did NOT have the t&t.

Do you know the model names of those SAKs, please?

Are they always the same models or do you vary the models?

Thanks.

The reason that I'm interested in these particular models is becuse I gave at least 2 Standards as gifts around '82. In, IIRC, '80 or '81, my sister gave me a Climber for my birthday or Christmas. At the time I was doing a bit of travelling and had a new mustache and felt that the Climber was the perfect knife (there's a late '80s Climber in a Vic clip-on sheath laying next to my keyboard as we speak. Or type.). Anyhow, for Christmas I decided to give my mom and sister Climbers. So I went down to the mall knife store and was ready to plunk down some cash until I found that I couldn't afford Climbers. The clerk steered me to the Standards which, IIRC again, were about $16/ea. Of course in those days I don't think I even knew they named knives.

Twenty years later I'm cleanning out my mom's kitchen when she moves to an assisted living home and what do I find? The Standard. The scales are drawer scratched and the factory edge is almost new. There is just this brown stain on the main blade. If I had to guess I would say that she cut a banana and never wiped it off.

JR,

Thanks for the reply.

I know of 2 Victorinox Economy line of SAKs

Nylon handles with toothpick & tweezers -

Regular Cellidor (polished plastic) handles without t&t -
Vic_Bdgt_Recruit.jpg

Note the difference in the Swiss Cross logos - both of which are press printed.

Could the small model be the Victorinox Escort?

UnknownVT.
I have that same Gerber belt buckle from way back. Too bad I can't legally carry it where I live cause I really like it. The edge is sharp and deploying it is fast and easy.

Even though I'm licensed to carry a concealed weapon in my home state I can't carry that belt buckle with the knife hidden in it without being fined for carrying a concealed weapon. Go figure. The license only covers a firearm. (Its in the statute I checked. ) If I did have it on me and got caught and fined I'd lose my concealed carry too so I don't risk it. One of these days I'm going to move to a state that doesn't care if you carry a baseball bat under your coat as long as you are licensed.

I think this is the 3rd time I've dropped in on this thread....

This time I have: SAK Huntsman, Allen Blade Pack Pal, Swisstool X

3rd time for me writing on this post. My edc's have changed each time, but now I think I've gotten that 'winning' combination.....at least for a while anyway.
BM Griptilian
Microtech Mini Socom
Cybertool 41

On keychain: Midnight Minichamp

Wallet: Spydercard

Yes, you are right, the bigger one is exactly on pic. nr. 1 - with tweezers and toothpick, and smaller one is Escort but with black colour handles.
See ya,
JR

Unknown - A fascinating read - I am amazed at the amount of gear some folks carry on a daily basis! And yes it is required that everyone post (at least once) on this thread!

Yep - that is the small Victorinox - I've never known the name but it is a favorite and I've never been able to find another one (this one came in a Sam's club blister pack with - I believe - a red laser point for about $10). I can tell you that a screwdrive and bottle opener are much more useful to me than scissors (particularly if I have a knife anyway!). ;)

Gerber SL 3.25 with CF scales, Pat Crawford One Hand Knife, Bob Dozier Arkansas Toothpick, Gerber Silver Knight with G-10 Scales, Gameboy Advance SP with Mario Golf, bottle of Vicodin, and motorcycle keys with LED flashlight.

Ok, I don't even know how many times my EDC has changed...

Knives: Victorinox Soldier, Victorinox Classic, (Sometimes I'll sport a BRK&T Mikro for fun, but alot less since college)

Other: Bic Lighter, Princeton Tec Pulsar, Money clip w/money, ID and cards, keys

By the end of fall semester I will do a write up on the Victorinox Soldier. I just love that thing!! :D

Cool! now that you now the name is the Rally (US model #54021) you should easily be able to find either a spare or replacement - I've seen it priced below $7.

You could also consider the Rambler - which has both that screwdriver/bottle-opener tool, and the scissors (US model #54031) ... found under $13

Yes the bottle opener and screwdrivers get used a lot on my EDC SAK.....
you might want to think about carrying something like the
Waiter (US model #53891) found under $10 -
53891_l.jpg

that Combination tool has the functions of Cap Lifter with Can Opener/Screwdriver/Wire Stripper.

or the Spartan (US model #53151 , shown #53351 translucent "ruby") found under $15
53351_l.jpg

Note the can-opener's small screwdriver tip also works with #1 & #2 Phillips screws.

Or you can search for this long discontinued model
Victorinox Scientist (Swiss/International model #1.63 05)

Lets see. In one pocket is a Mini Bear Jaw pocket tool. In the other is a Leatherman Micra. On my pocket is the Ka-Bar Thorn or the Kershaw Scallion depending on the day and which one I pick. On my belt is my Swiss Tool which is always with me even when the others may not be.

You know, I've been tempted to post in this thread a long time ago. Here it goes:

Right pocket: terry cloth for boogers, sweat, blood, etc...
Watch pocket: Motorola with camera (don't know what model)
Left rear pocket: beat-up wallet
Right rear pocket: SOG Flash II
Left belt loop: keys, Micra, whistle
Face: Rayban Wayfarers or prescription lenses
Left wrist: Timex Humvee
*My SAK can be either of the following: V'nox Executive, Bantam, Tinker, Safari, Stayglow Climber, pre-1970's Spartan, Wenger Noname, SwissChamp.
