How do you get on with the Spyderco penknife ? i have one on loan from a member at British blades and i love it , i plan to buy one in the next few weeks but in the mean time im waiting for my first Spyderco (Atlantic Salt ) to arrive . obvious for me is the UK penknife is ideal for the UK carry laws and feels just right in the hand :)

That's an awesome idea.  Ive' seen this before but didn't recognize it. Once I feel the need to lighten my load somewhat I'm gonna go that route, but for now my Juice CS4 is keeping me happy.

So far I love the penknife. Slim, lowride clip, perfect in the hand. I think the only drawback might be the clip. I have seen pics showing how easy it bends. I think that might happen with our more stout forumites who wear it in the waistband though. ;)

I finally got around to taking a few pics today. Here's my latest EDC carry. It's a lot lighter than I used to throw in my pockets years ago, but seems to work well.

Strider Gen6 SNG
Atwood SpannerBaby, hung on belt from a Maxpedition Keyper
Arc-P AAA flashlight
Seiko SKX-171 with Rhino strap

The Seiko is sometimes swapped out for a G-Shock Frogman. The SNG may get occasionally swapped out for a Lonewolf Loveless City Knife. The Atwood is new and replaces my old 1st generation Prybaby. The Arc AAA never leaves my pocket.

The pack in the background is a new Maxpedition Monsoon Gearslinger. I Maliced a couple of accessory pouches on it, and am trying it out as a work bag for my laptop, Ipod, tools and such. The Maxpedition replaces an excellent Kelty pack that is getting a little on the ratty side, after years of use.

Interesting idea. I guess it depends on your use. Since my Micra is used 90% for the scissors your modification would give me far less than 5/7ths functionality.

Actually I would rather have the scissors than say the file ... but I haven't figured out a way to contain them on the keyman style setup. I was going to add a spring from a victorinox large scissors to leatherman micra scissor, but could never make it work and fold.

I was actually thinking about modifying the T2 tool from ASP, I however would have to drill out the screws to free the blades on the tool.

Here's what I carry most everday. Came out a little dark & I picked a lousy background. D'Oh! :o

Maxpedition Thermite + Maxpedition Double Mag Pouch - I'm using it as a camera bag for my Cannon S2 IS, plus some other 'essentials'. I like to have my camera w/ me whenever possible. Mag pouch is attached to the shoulder/waist strap horizontally. I wear the thermite like a messenger bag on my left side even though I'm right handed.

Contents of Thermite are as follows:
1. One "Rite in the Rain" notebook.
2. Homemade first aid kit; bandaids, gauze dressing, aspirin, etc.
3. One Marathon space blanket
4. Two CR123A batteries for light
5. Lens cloth
6. Cannon S2 IS in the main compartment.
7. 5x8" camp towel folded at the bottom of main compartment
8. Mini tri-pod & camera strap in right side pouch
9. Gerber multi-tool & Spyderco Native in left pouch
10. 'Windhaven Farm' buisness cards in flap pocket

Mag pouch on shoulder strap contains:
1. Two sets of 4 AA batteries for camera; Man, that camera eats batteries fast... :(
2. Nuwai two stage 3 watt LED flashlight
3. One black sharpie & one ball point click pen

The knives and watch tend to be rotated every few days but these were what I had on today so they get there 15 minutes of fame.

Watch: Seiko Alarm Chronograph w/ moded bracelet

Fixed Blade: Mark Banfield Kingwood Hunter w/ 5" convex blade of 1075, triple tempered and acid etched, 10.25" OAL. I work in a stables so I can carry a fixed to work :)

Folders: MercWorx Atropos w/ 4" BG-42 blade, 9.25" OAL. Lonewolf Loveless City Knife w/ 2.25" blade, OAL 6.25"

Flashlight: Nuwai QIII 3 watt LED - clip & lanyard added to allow for pocket carry.

If you made it this far, thanks for looking.

Hey Physics, how do like the Merxworx folder? I've always liked the design on this piece, but read about some hit and miss on the QC. If the QC is up to snuff I would like to have one of these.

Hopefully you're using NiMH rechargeable batteries?

If not, get 3 sets of 4, and a Fast charger one that charges in less than about 2 hours for a set of 4 batteries.

Beware of the very fast 15 minute chargers - as they seem to have to use special batteries and are not compatible with other regular NiMH batteries.

NiMH capacities are up to about 2500mAh now which should make them last as long if not longer than regular primary alkaline batteries - and NiMH rechargeables work out much more economical in the long run....... trust me I know, as I do a lot of photography.

JFYI -
the Canon S2 IS review at Imaging-Resource.com said this about the battery life -
"Really excellent battery life. With a worst-case run time (capture mode, with the rear-panel LCD in use) of just under four hours, the Canon S2IS has much better than average battery life."

and that was using four 1600mAh cells

P239 - I love my Atropos! One of the most solid folders I have every held let alone owned. Opens smooth as oiled glass with just a flick of the thumb; don't even need any wrist action. Locks up super tighter with zero blade play. Nice thick Ti liner so no worries about flimsy liner lock failure. I love a good BG-42 blade and this is one fine blade. Nice recurve that takes a hair popping edge. I like my edges a little 'toothy' for utility work and thats just what this blade gives me. Considering its size it isn't too heavy. The handle is pretty large but comfortable w/ semi-smooth O.D.green micarta scales.

Now I bought mine slightly used of ebay for half what a new one costs. I don't know when it was made either so I can't say wether it's a newer production or older. The guy I bought it from moded the pocket clip for tip up carry which I prefer. After using it for several months I would say it's worth their asking price as it is pretty much a custom peice and very heavy duty. Always be on the look out for a good deal though.

Vincent - Thanks for the advice on the rechargeable batteries and the link. This is my first digital camera so I'm not sure what a good batt life is for type of camera. I'm definately not getting 4 hrs of life from AA alkaline batts. Maybe if I only take 50-75 photo's in that time but I take waaay more than that. I think I get, maybe, 2-2.5 hrs. I'll definatly try your advice about the NiMH's with a good charger. Thanks!

...This is my first digital camera...
Very good for a first one. They had one on sale some time ago at a local store, after shopping around to check prices I realized that it was a great buy but when I went back it was gone, Oh well, I'll stay with my old Kodak for a while.

Currently using this Kodak DX4530 with 2500 mAh Energizer NiMH batteries, they recharge in about 8.5 hours so I recharge them overnight.

My EDC?

-Wallet if I'm driving
-Chillum, bic and film canister if I'm smoking
-Skateboard if I'm skating
-Keys
-Memo pad and pen (Sometimes I carry it, sometimes I don't)

That's it. Rarely carry anything with me. I've never had reason enough to carry a knife with me constantly, nor have I ever felt a desire to bring flashlights or bandages with me. ;)

I've got the exact same camera, and I think the battery life is pretty amazing. I upgraded when my Canon PowerShot G2 died; both have marathon battery life, compared to some I've tried (or belong to friends).

When out and about, I just leave mine on; the lens extending and retracting eats up a lotta power. The real secret is to turn off the continual auto-focus, otherwise the lens is continually adjusting, and eating the batteries. I also keep the rear LCD screen closed; I prefer the viewfinder anyway (guess I'm old-school), and it uses less juice; if you dont take a picture, it shuts off either screen after 60 seconds anyway, which also saves battery charge. If I don't have to use the flash much, one set of AAs lasts all day.

I run mine on the same Energizer 2500mAh rechargable set-up that Don Luis shows. I rotate two sets of batteries so that I always have one set charged while using the other; and I'm planning on getting another set of AAs for those times when an outlet isn't easy to come by, such as camping.

The Canon PowerShot S2 IS is a steal right now.

It's a damn fine camera in its own right, and now that Canon has "announced" the S3 IS, I'm seeing some real bargains on the S2 IS. In typical Canon fashion, the S3 doesn't add much over the S2, especially considering the higher price for the new model. The S2 is the better buy right now.
