Started with a spare CRK clip and a .5" button head cap screw and brad hole T-Nut, both 6-32 thread (hardware aisle at Menards).

Then after disassembly, I chucked the barrel of the T-Nut into an electric drill and turned the flange down on a old junk coarse stone. Works much better than I could have imagined, and the stock lanyard tube (most current QCI large version) gives both the T-Nut and the clip something solid to bottom out on. I pivoted it one time on the typical clip snag we've all done, and it easily went back to where I want it. I am certain I would have badly bent the same clip if it had been fixed in place, such as it would have on the CRK it came off of.
