Speaking of Omega springs: I had one of the springs break on my 2 year old 940-2 last March. Since I live up in the great white north, sending it back to BM is totally out of the question. So a couple of years earlier, I bought some memory wire and a (very) cheap set of jeweller's pliers (Amazon) for the inevitability of a spring breaking.

When it broke, I made my own and even though they were a little crude looking, they worked as good (if not better) than the originals. However, I did contact BM and asked for a set of Omega's to be sent out and a very nice lady at CS replied that they would and I have the new set as spares. If they hadn't sent me out any I still wouldn't hesitate making more when they break.

Warranties are nice for when you can avail yourself of them but sometimes you gotta improvise when you can't.
The Anthem Axis lock replaces the Omega Springs with a compression coil spring. Even if the coil broke, the thing would probably still work because the guide rod would keep everything in place. The slide with the finger on it pushes on the center of the lock bar.
The 2 #30 TORX sockets are needed to disassemble the lock bar.

I stole my dog’s ball to use as a prop for this one. Don’t worry though, I made sure to give it back.

Interesting to see your Anthem broken down, tiguy. Looks a bit fussy to reassemble.

It’s not bad. The TORX sockets have to be refaced to get at the nuts. One nut is staked to the lock bar, the other is removable. The tricky part is pushing the slide against the spring and holding it there until you slide lock bar in front of it. The bearing insertion is complicated by the integral frame.

IMG_1261.JPG The fanciest Byrd! The Ti handle is surprisingly nice and so thin in the pocket it carries like a dream. I added a cheapo deep clip (bc an mxg would cost half the price of the knife haha) but whys there no endura with this handle and finger Choil? I bet it would sell well! Too bad the blade isnt a straight swap but maybe it could be made to work somehow...its a great knife and a far cry from the 20 dollar FRN Byrd. Not in love w the ho hum blade steel but mainly the ugly comet hole though it'll work til i figure out how to make it better.

Put away my Extrema Ratio BF2-CD and pocketed a standard G10 S30V Spyderco Manix2 XL, after reading/responding to some chat about it in another thread.

The blade's the right length but at 2" wide when closed it's a tight fit in my front pocket w/the wallet that I also carry there.

However, I'd forgotten how much I liked to flick it open using the lock release technique. Locks up perfectly almost every time which is better than when I use the technique w/compression lock Spyders.

In terms of details, I like the polished clip (so that I don't have to worry about clip wear) and the interesting rippling (bumps?) along the top and bottom of the liner which improve the grip at the top near the blade jimping and along the bottom towards the rear of the grip, which are both interesting and functional.

Don't think I'll be carrying it long but it's definitely staying in my collection w/the regular Manix2 that I bought to pair w/it.
