EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Oh, I really like that! Quoting deliberately to bring this to the next page. Would love to see more angles of that one.

It really is beautiful. Its handmade so not without blemishes, but smooooth and sleek!
There is another angle in the Knives and Coffee thread from this morning. :D

I've had both, and strongly agree with you. I really prefer my framelocks to be without lockbar inserts. I like the bite of titanium against steel for the lock engagement, and it is increasingly difficult to find them as manufacturers opt for the mass production option of inserts. That's why I like my older XM's, and have recently discovered how much I really like the SnG and SMF for similar reasons. I also like the Gen3 XM's where the closed stop pin is more "internal", and like blade mounted stop pins for the open position, ala the aforementioned and Umnumzaan's, a lot of Medford's, etc.

This goes back a few years but almost every Strider I owned except for one which was a semi custom had horrible lock stick. Sometimes it went away “almost” but most of the time not. Usually my thumb broke in first lol so to me it’s not worth it.I also like the bite you speak of but not to we’re your thumb turns purple trying to disengage. The custom I had was wonderful but unfortunately the remaining that weren’t were horrible. But hey just my experience everyone’s else’s mileage will vary. If they could get It right I would not have a problem with a knife without a lockbar insert.
Striders are beautiful knives but I’m not going to pay 600.00 for a knife and hope it doesn’t have lock stick.

I agree. when Ti lockbars are done right they are my preference as opposed to an insert. My sebenzas, sage 2, and gen 4 XM18 just to name a few i own that are done well. Inserts dont require the same care for fitment, are prone to slipping ala many ZTs, and can induce lock stick just as easily when bearing down cutting. Just my thoughts.

You nailed it with “When there done right “
Unfortunately there’s not a lot out there that have unless you step into the custom territory or get lucky and or spend 500.00 and up. The odds are a lot better even in mass production not to have any issues with a lockbar insert. Don’t recall ever having any lock slip with a ZT but then again I don’t baton with my folders nor try to get one to fail by numerous ways .So that would be a job for a fixed blade anyway.I’ve never had lock stick with a lockbar insert except for one out of at least double digits of knives I’ve owned and that was a Hinderer fulltrack In its early production. I think it was a combo of how thick the lockbar was and the angle/geometry which made it a teeth grinder to try and pull it back lol.
To each it’s own and don’t really think there’s a wrong or right just personal preference and luck of the draw. Generally speaking I’ve had a number of knives known for certain issues that I never experienced with mine. So again I think it’s luck of the draw on semi customs and mass produced knives
