EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

My favorite way to get to know a knife is to put it to work, and today afforded plenty of opportunities to do just that. The Super Commander is a big, heavy, "fighty" knife, but I'm finding that it's surprisingly capable as a work knife, and it's a pleasure to use. :)

We got up here to our Vermont woods last night and discovered just a bit of color in the trees in the morning light. More than a hint of that in my pocket this afternoon as I cut a downed Sugar Maple into 8-footers and hauled the six bolts to our little log landing by the cabin.

Well today was the last day at work for me. The boss sold the company and everyone got let go today. He told us 2 weeks ago and for today I wanted my favorite knife

A warehouse job was a perfect opportunity to put my blades through the paces and this is by far my favorite to use and my most visually unique.

Very nice ‘last day’ carry choice. Here’s hoping an even sweeter opportunity presents itself in place of the warehouse gig :)

Nice! Love the blade shape on that one. I will second the guy above me. Hopefully an even better opportunity comes out of this for you.

You pulled the trigger  So what’s your impression?
...I almost bought another to keep as a collection piece (I only really “collect” PM2s). It’s absolutely beautiful and it also screams USE ME. I’m going to carry it for sure. The scales aren’t as slick as the Knifeworks Cruwear...not as grippy as G10 of course.

^^Chariotz4, what is that one please?

It's a "Premium Plus" limited edition Benchmade Proper (319DLC-1801); it was only made available through Benchmade's Premium Plus dealers. To my knowledge, there's quite a few supporting dealers that still have them in stock. It's rocking a DLC coated S30V blade and matching hardware with blue G10 scales. The scales are pretty slick, but given its size and the fact that it's a slip joint, I don't find that to be too much of a problem for how I use it; additionally, as an added bonus, the smooth scales make it nice to just drop into your pocket without having to worry about it "chewing" on anything. Love this modern take on a slippie from Benchmade and the colour scheme!

Here's a link to the BHQ listing.

LOVE the marbled CF on that Sprint! I've heard rumours of an upcoming Delica Sprint to follow from the same dealer that's supposedly also going to be wearing the same material for scales...

Today is an easy-going Friday for myself so I decided I'd carry something laid-back:

What is that?

Carrying the Southard with the silver lightning strike cf today. Imho this is one of the nicest knives Spyderco has ever put out. There is however something distinctively unspydie feeling about this knife. The Domino and the Advocate and other spydie framelocks feel very Spyderco. Shame about the couple of design flaws.

One the cutout in the blade to make the stop pin track leaves the blade with a few very thin bridges of steel being the only thing to prevent it from breaking.

And two the paper thin support washers the bearings roll on. When I first saw these I was shocked and abit disappointed Spyderco would send it out the door like that. These support washers are literally thinner than some gauges of paper. Fortunately I have heard the knife actually runs fine without them should they ever become so cupped they compromise the action.

This question is open to @evilgreg who may have the most Southards I have ever seen an individual own. But anyone else please answer if you know.

The stock Southard scales come with two weird metal lugs on the underside of the scale. They seem to do nothing except fit into two corresponding cutouts on the liner. They can actually be spun in place on the scale so I am not sure how they are attatched.

What do they do? The only thing I can think of is make a firmer connection between scale and liner.

They can be seen here on the underside of the brown scale on the right. One is to the left of the lanyard hole and the other one is north of the pivot hole.
