Back in the late 90s give or take a few years I picked up a carbon fiber handled knife by Gerber International. Gerber by the way was beginning the slide down that steep and slippery slope of shopping out their knives to save money by not having to make the knives , just design them.
That worked pretty good for awhile. Just look at the people that came out of Gerber's doors towards the end. Al Mar, Blackie Collins, Pete Kershaw just to name a few. These guys all moved on to much bigger and better things. Some great knives came from those guys too. The Silver Knight Series from Seki, the Paul Knives just to name a couple.
I love the original Silver Knights from the 70s the F&F were unparalleled by any production made Knife of the day. Gerber over the years has had some underrated knives the SL3.25 series was one of those knives. With an ATS34 blade, titanium liner lock and a range of available scales. G-10, Micarta, carbon fiber along with some other exotic materials.
These knives were great little blades. A gentleman’s knife for sure. Their timing coming to the market was wrong. I used to pick these up BNIB for less than $50. Nowadays they’re near impossible to find and sell for a fortune. If, you can find them that is.
I had the SL3.25CF and lost it only to find it after I’d bought a replacement. Not too soon after that I misplaced/lost it again. Never did find it again but I did have the spare. I keep lookin’ for them so if you see one you might wanna grab one and try it out. I’m pretty darn sure they’ll be all but impossible to get your hands on too soon, so find one if you can.
Here’s the last one I had, I’d highly recommend one.
Here it is with a ZT 0770CF and a Warren Thomas/Beretta Avenger with a VG10/CF laminated blade for size comparison.
So that’s what I’m carryin ‘ today.
