EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

I've had this 112 FG in ebony for a few months now, and have pressed it into duty. There is just something about using a Buck knife like this for work. It is one of those tools that once you start using it, you get it.

Today it opened oil containers, trimmed dead banana leaves, helped knock back a few branches on a tree I was cutting down, picked thorns out of my boots, and hit the concrete a few times after dropping it.

It was still sharp enough to trim a piece of canvas that I wrote the date and mileage of two trucks I serviced to store in the glove box.

So this Real Steal Phasma was entirely an impulse buy. What compelled me to feel “I had to have it” at first sight? I think it was because if I were given a chance to design a knife’s aesthetics from scratch….it would look very similar to what they’ve done here. They’ve literally incorporated many of my favorite design elements into this one knife. It was just that simple.

Overall I’m pleased with it. For a hair under $300 it’s a pretty solid build. At full retail I definitely wouldn’t compare it to Sebenza or SHF….but “on sale” the aesthetics really resonated with me and right now I’m diggin’ it.

Now, I should’ve prefaced all that by mentioning that at this point I’m still assuming the action will break in and loosen up quite a bit. I’ve been working it a little this afternoon and will probably lube and tinker with it tomorrow…but outta the box it was stiffer than 12-year old me finding my dad’s Penthouse collection in the nightstand drawer. Not gritty, just extremely tight….so the functional verdict is still in deliberations.

Guess we’ll see how things go over the weekend.

….Little man worked with me this morning before his last soccer game. Gonna head to the woods and climb up in a tree this afternoon

What, they don’t have any bleachers at the soccer field or even room for a chair on the sidelines? You gotta climb a tree??

Bahahaha

But on a serious note, I always enjoy seeing these pics with your son involved in work or play. One day you’ll both look back and cherish these times spent together like nothing else in the world. I know it’s cliche….but they really do grow up waaaaay too fast. Enjoy!

Hats off to you. Bringing him up right. Hope the hunt went well.
Yea we have a lotta fun. Saw several, a lot actually, but none worth pulling the trigger for. Let em grow

Haha. Yea someone actually makes us books with all the pictures in it. I’ll get them on Father’s Day, bday, etc. The cliche is very true tho. Try to make the most of it

Thanks!

Yea, that is the Dragonfly. This one is a blade swap with the Pakkawood exclusive from KnifeCenter. You nailed it too, that's exactly what I do. I've found the fully serrated Dragonfly to be a great way to add the utility of the Spyderedge to my carry while still carrying a plain edge as my primary folder. It goes virtually unnoticed clipped in the corner of my back pocket until needed. I carry it pretty much all of the time, so much so that I've taken to swapping the blades from the SE model into other versions of the Dragonfly for variety.

It's amazing shot...I mean the photo :D

In the previous photo, the bechmade one, is it crooked river or mini? Wanted to know how it feels when really handle in outdoor, will it too large as folding knife?
I've been added crook river & mini one into basket for a while, cannot decide...because the physical shop is closed, cannot try the real feeling.
( - I have paramilitary 2, seems the blade length is similar to mini crooked river)
