EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Wait! What did I do???

I'm just razzing you (because you're right!) in pointing out something that folks with a lot of knives* probably don't think about often. A knife only carried occasionally, it can be a great knife, but if you start carrying that knife long enough to be exposed to different situations, its (possible) flaws are generally revealed. I actually can think of an example off the top of my head. I got in an Emerson large CQC-8 at one point, and carried it here and there. It would thrash open mail or an Amazon box, because it did come really sharp. But then, one day I needed to execute a really fine cutting task, and that knife flat out failed at it due to that thick blade and wonky grind. For what I needed in that moment, that CQC-8 couldn't get it done, so it failed. Thankfully, the SAK in my other pocket stepped in and got it done.

That CQC-8 moved along down the road with most of my other Emersons a few years ago and I don't miss it in the slightest.

* Definitely, and totally not me! Surely not!

Tonife has a couple of cool designs but their steel selection caps out with the 8Cr14Mov here. They are actually the budget division for the company that runs Harnds. I've contacted them a few times to ask if they'd make the Tonife Squirrel in 14C28N but they swear by brand division. :(

Here is the little Squirrel in 7Cr17Mov next to today's actual carry for Wooden Wednesday. It's just a little thing but the ergonomics are surprisingly awesome. The sheath securely locks to the geometry of the knife. It pops off with a thumb press and you can send it flying with ease. I've previously dropped this loose into a pocket on lazy days, including a flannel shirt pocket. Worse case scenario, it is handier than a "box cutter" and cost me less than $20.
