EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

I'm just razzing you (because you're right!) in pointing out something that folks with a lot of knives* probably don't think about often. A knife only carried occasionally, it can be a great knife, but if you start carrying that knife long enough to be exposed to different situations, its (possible) flaws are generally revealed. I actually can think of an example off the top of my head. I got in an Emerson large CQC-8 at one point, and carried it here and there. It would thrash open mail or an Amazon box, because it did come really sharp. But then, one day I needed to execute a really fine cutting task, and that knife flat out failed at it due to that thick blade and wonky grind. For what I needed in that moment, that CQC-8 couldn't get it done, so it failed. Thankfully, the SAK in my other pocket stepped in and got it done.

That CQC-8 moved along down the road with most of my other Emersons a few years ago and I don't miss it in the slightest.

* Definitely, and totally not me! Surely not!
That's a great example of part of what started me on this little journey. I'm looking forward to seeing which of my knives I end up keeping and which ones go to the exchange.

Geez, after seeing that “Transformer” knife Chip WValtakis WValtakis posted earlier, everything else seems a bit pedestrian by comparison. Lol, it reminds me just how little I actually know about the various types of knives that are floating around out there. Very, very cool.

3.25 for a simple one-pic Wednesday for me today.

And I’d like to give a little shout out to all the artisans out there putting together spectacular lanyards. My paracord came in today, and while some of the most basic of knots may not be all that difficult….the skill of pairing the chord to the knife and making the whole thing look cohesive, refined and professionally done is clearly an art in itself. Today I learned that I have a lot to learn, so I just wanted to toss out some appreciation for those who make it look easy.

I missed posting yesterday as we've had a lot going on here lately with K and I working on the boathouse, moving stuff around, and re-organizing the woodshop, which is currently in a state of extreme chaos but heading in the right direction. Yesterday I had the new Leader LW on me as a primary carry and picked up its brother Hudson LW later as I've been comparing the two and just now posted to answer a query over at the Cheburkov Channel. I didn't do much of any work on our projects, though, mostly picking up supplies for later and today, then taking some time to work on knives, snap a bunch of pics, and enjoy my decadent birthday dinner of ice cream and cake with my wife and the local two of my three grown sons. So for yesterday....

...and today, with my rescaled PM2, which you can see cut through some seriously gooed-up boxes and stuff as K and I worked to get things back together in the woodshop.

Tonife has a couple of cool designs but their steel selection caps out with the 8Cr14Mov here. They are actually the budget division for the company that runs Harnds. I've contacted them a few times to ask if they'd make the Tonife Squirrel in 14C28N but they swear by brand division. :(

Here is the little Squirrel in 7Cr17Mov next to today's actual carry for Wooden Wednesday. It's just a little thing but the ergonomics are surprisingly awesome. The sheath securely locks to the geometry of the knife. It pops off with a thumb press and you can send it flying with ease. I've previously dropped this loose into a pocket on lazy days, including a flannel shirt pocket. Worse case scenario, it is handier than a "box cutter" and cost me less than $20.

THANKS! That Squirrel is exactly what I’ve been looking for the past 6 months or so. Your post made my night sir!

Just picked this up from oldmanwilly oldmanwilly (sale went flawlessly btw).

The hype is real. While it's only a day old in my home, I can tell it's gonna create some fun memories.

I broke my dollar limit rule, but I think in this case the quality justifies the cost.

My favorite hunting knife is a CS MH (Taiwan) in CPM-3V, as it's a fantastic alloy for an outdoor knife.

This Carothers is probably gonna take that top spot.

Welcome to the club!! I think you will find that breaking your “dollar limit rule” was worth it this time. :)

Enjoy in good health!
