Our lower 27, with our camp, has two stands--the larger being uphill and a northern hardwoods mix of sugar maple, ash, and beech with a little pine and balsam mixed in. The other is along our northern bordering creek which drains the three surrounding hills and ridges of our little valley and is comprised of cedar, balsam, yellow birch, and the occasional pine, the quality of those trees just so-so.They sure are, sir! Balsam Fir can be brutal for falling over from a stiff breeze. We also have a bunch of pine, hemlocks and cedars in our softwood bushes. Our hardwood bushes are where I love to be. Many species of maples, birches, oaks, black cherrys and others.
Merry Christmas!! Wishing you and yours a very happy weekend.
Just a couple stones' throw up the unmaintained extension of our road is our northern 33 comprising the eastern two peaks of a long curving hill, the highest in our half of our sleepy town. Those woods are also northern hardwoods mix, mostly sugar maple and ash with some pockets of softwood thrown in here and there. Our acre plus hilltop meadow looks eastward across the Connecticut River Valley. I'm always happiest in our hardwood stands, too.
Best wishes to you and yours as well for a most Happy Holiday, and I hope you can enjoy the blessings of electricity along the way.
