EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Pulled that “old guy” move last night, you know…the one where you fall asleep in front of the TV before you’ve had a chance to get caught up on emails, social media and posting pics? Then ya’ wake up all pissy because your wife caught ya’ snoring and is teasing you for falling asleep before she did and it’s time to take the dogs out into the bitter cold for their pre-bed walk but you’re groggy and want nothing more than to crawl your ass under the covers, then both dogs suddenly decide your yard isn’t good enough to squat in so you have to walk four houses down wearing only your summer pajamas (because you live in Florida and that’s all you own) shivering so hard your teeth are chattering and a neighbor just happens to be doing the same thing with his dog but he was smart enough to throw on a jacket and despite normally having very little to say he thinks now would be a great time to talk about the unusually cold weather while the dogs begin frolicking and getting all amped up just before bed…..

Ok, maybe that’s just a “me” thing, I dunno.

Anyway, these are from yesterday. Wasn’t happy with the lanyard I tied (G2 I’m knot, pun intended) or the pics, so we’re gonna try this again today…

Gary, you mentioned earlier that you found “the one” then posted a couple pictures of this. Has “the one” been replaced? Either way I really like the lanyards you place on the others.
It was a strong contender at the time, this one nudged it aside...for now
stay tuned fans for more episodes of "As the Blade Opens..." coming soon in season 24 this Jan

Evening walk with the dog in the snow.

Got another 8” of snow last night. Power is out again. 😡 Got a restoration time of 5:00pm tonight. Hopefully they stick to that. The air is heavy and it’s only -1° currently and they are calling for 20-35mm of rain over the next few days. That, coupled with the 2 ft of snow we have, is gonna be a bad brew. Gonna go ahead and say that trees will break and a possible long stretch of no power may be coming.
Welcome to the North!!

I did do shipping prep for some sheaths that I will be making. :)

And pocket carrying these two today…the David Mary David Mary Wharnificent fixed blade has become one of my favorite blades. Really well done and has me super excited for his “Rangs” to come out. :)

For your viewing pleasure… ;)

Happy Wednesday, all!!

Wandering_About Wandering_About

Might be time to look into a Vanax Quiet Carry Drift for those “oops! son of a…” dropped in the water days. :)

Happy holidays!

Usually I go for a stainless knife like one of my CRKs or an S110V Spydie while fishing, but just felt like carrying the 15V Manix yesterday. Bought it to be a user so no big deal. Cleaned and oiled it up when I got home and I can't see any signs of rust anywhere, though I haven't taken it apart.

Sometimes ya gotta follow your heart. 😁 I get it. I’m less worried these days about how my knives look. I’m getting to the point where I think “use it or get rid of it.”

Glad to see ya got out for some fishing. :)
Did ya do any catchin’?

The stream is full of willing stocker rainbows and "wild" browns (the browns were introduced many years ago but self sustain their population). So yes, plenty of fish came to hand.

I keep a little flashlight on my keychain, but if I didn't I would hang a knife on there.

The Victorinox knives have sterling silver scales. They are good for cutting thin pieces of string and opening envelopes. They are not much good for anything else, including filing fingernails. But silver still qualifies as a precious metal, so maybe after the apocalypse I can trade them for a can of baked beans! I love a good bowl of Boston baked beans, I tell you! Especially after a giant disaster! That's good eating!

The bizarre little Chinese blades in an aluminum envelope are actually more useful. Thick, sturdy D2 (the longer one) and M390 (in the squareish one) blades, in rugged handles with positive detents and liner locks. Durable, indestructible, and very well suited to a lot of the small tasks we need a blade for. I don't recall the manufacturer, maybe Eafengrow? Inexpensive, useful, and they won't scare those who cringe at everything you do or say.

I don't buy from what I suspect are government subsidized manufacturers anymore, out of consideration for non-subsidized manufacturers, but I wish a USA manufacturer would knock these off. I gave them away as holiday gifts one year to the folks toward the bottom of the gift list, and the recipients all had very strong positive reactions. Very useful, practical tools that people actually use a lot.

Welcome to the North!!

Right there with you my friend. Went to visit the folks north of the Bury. Definitely no mossy rocks for knife pics up here, but no shortage of snow, ice and general winter apocalypse covered rocks. So much snow… oh well, it’s way more fun going for Tim’s on a sled than in a car anyway.
Hope you get your power back soon.
