New knife, had to carry it at work to see what I think. That serrated hawkbill is nasty sharp. Sorta meh on the FRN handle, prefer G10, Lockback is alright, not as meh as I thought I'd feel about it. At least you can thumbflick it open. All in all happy with the purchase.

I've started going back through my collection, picking out knives that I always liked and carried, but just haven't for some time as I've picked up so many more and am always falling in love with something newer. I loved these knives back when and as soon as I pocket them again I remember what great blades they are.

My wife bought me a mini-Barrage for Christmas one year and I wanted to try out the full size. I bought this 581 on the Exchange for a great price as it was a user with some blade scratches and off-centered. This was also one of the first knives that I spent some time tweaking and making my own. I hated the AO and de-assisted the knife, took out the lock and backspacer and installed standoffs, changed the bolster screws and thumb studs to black, and got the knife blade properly centered.

Guys that are big into blade-to-handle ratio probably don't care for the full-size Barrage, but I like having plenty to hang on to with my thick old carpenter's mitts.

Looks great w/ those standoffs in, sans backspacer! I dig the look of the black hardware too. You really did make that one your own. Very slick!
