Thanks for the kind words, friend.Nice SERE 2K brotha! I like the term you used for that very unique sort of internal texture and look that the blade on the SERE has, as well as some other Japanese made blades in the VG-10 spectrum of steels. "Molten luster" is something that I've tried to convey to people online before and unless you've seen it, I suppose it's hard to picture. The SERE's one of my favorite knives too though. Such a hand filling and completely overbuilt handle. You also just don't see those sanded edges that perfectly match up the gG10 scales with the liners anymore on production knives. You really only see it on the more hand finished (instead of purely or mainly CNC made) customs.
Hell yea man I hear you and have had some very similar experiences. I also have not really liked the thought of buying knives in FRN in the past, and kind of still don't. However I've ended up with several and they are almost always some of my favorite knives in the collection. I think it's because I don't even think about scratching them up or anything. Rolling them around in dirt and mud while working doesn't do anything appreciable at all to them once they're cleaned off. They just work. Thanks for the kind words, friend.
It's funny how we can come around after time to appreciate something that left us kinda cold back when. I picked up a contrasting-colored Spydie pair some years ago--Delica and Endura--when KSF had a close-out on their Spyderco stock due to some pricing/stocking issues at the time. I bought them as the price was right and they're iconic knives in the lineage of modern folders, but I didn't really care for FRN nor lock-backs at the time and was skeptical about VG10. After the Endura lost its edge and easily chipped doing some work at our Vermont camp I was really turned off, but a subsequent deep sharpening yielded a super-keen and much more enduring () secondary bevel. Maybe the factory edge grinding got too hot or whatever, but the point is I've come to appreciate VG-10 for ease of sharpening and keenness, as well as coming to like lockbacks much better since I've figured out how to manipulate them for one handed opening and closing, and I kinda like the feel of FRN in hand now.
Anyway, back to the SERE, it's now my fourth in that steel after the aforementioned two and my SuperLeaf, I've come to appreciate that characteristic molten luster that all four exhibit, and boy this Al Mar is effing sharp. The simple details you mentioned are outstanding. I find myself gazing at both the spine and open sides appreciating the contrast between the G10 and perfectly aligned liners as well as their match with the blade edges, standoffs, butt spacer, and the second bright clip I found when looking for paperwork.

Between you and Chazzy I’m chomping at the bit hereNice SERE 2K brotha! You definitely got the juices flowing I’ve got one in my cart fighting the temptation and I’m loosing lol. Thanks, J. I'm really impressed with it and glad to finally have one. I have an Eagle/Falcon pair of Moki-made Talons I use as my desk knives and have had my eye out for the right SERE to come along for a while. I almost boughtChuck_Nunface 's nice green 2K a few times, but really wanted a black one and feel lucky to have stumbled on Martin's not long after it was posted. I'm having a hard time putting this one down--it's such a great design and so well executed. I'd love to be able to find an Eagle HD, but there aren't that many out there and if you find one the price is through the roof.

I appreciated you writing and offering me a very fair deal after I commented at your YouTube review. Your knife, like new with a fresh polished edge, was very tempting.Lots of people almost bought mine...still got it![]()
