Thanks, J. I'm really impressed with it and glad to finally have one. I have an Eagle/Falcon pair of Moki-made Talons I use as my desk knives and have had my eye out for the right SERE to come along for a while. I almost boughtSuch a fantastic knife!!!! It was the best production knife available for good while....Love my Vallottin conversion...Enjoy!!
Nice SERE 2K brotha! I like the term you used for that very unique sort of internal texture and look that the blade on the SERE has, as well as some other Japanese made blades in the VG-10 spectrum of steels. "Molten luster" is something that I've tried to convey to people online before and unless you've seen it, I suppose it's hard to picture. The SERE's one of my favorite knives too though. Such a hand filling and completely overbuilt handle. You also just don't see those sanded edges that perfectly match up the gG10 scales with the liners anymore on production knives. You really only see it on the more hand finished (instead of purely or mainly CNC made) customs. It's Day Three with the new-to-me SERE 2K and I was doing a little tune-up and lube and getting ready to stash away the nice Al Mar box it came in. I looked under the foam layers to see if there was any paperwork hiding there and instead found a nice bright stainless clip and screws in a bag instead. I really kinda liked the blued clip that was on it despite its obvious wear, but figured I'd give the bright one a turn. I think it goes nicely with the typically molten luster of Seki City VG10 and matches the finish of th SS liners and butt spacer.
I've added a couple drops of TriFlow to the Teflon washers and my usual dab of FinishLine to the detent ball to get the action even smoother and freer than it was when I got it, though it was damn good to start with. I was able to tighten the pivot just a skosh after to push the blade more towards center, as it was just a tiny bit off, and thought I might do a scale shift too which would require a disassembly as the standoff screws are hidden behind the G10. Unfortuately, the liner screw sockets are smaller than my smallest 1.5 mm Wiha (1,5 in Euro parlance) and I ended up ordering a couple sets of mini shorthandled hex wrenches, adding a fractional set as well. In the meantime, the tabletop leverage method has gotten the blade all but perfectly centered anyway.
