EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Morning. After 3 nights in Tokyo, ~600 miles by train, 6 customer visits and one conference - glad to be back home and allowed to use my knives.

First time in Japan since the pandemic, that was nice. And having a new knife waiting at home was even better (thank you, @ironwagon) !

At least its a fast train !!! Also probably nicer than anything we have on this continent... But.no knives....ooffaa!! That blows... Welcome home!👍

Brand new Large Sebenza 31 in Magnacut. Just just took it out of the box, tore it down, cleaned, lubed ( came completely dry from CRK), reassembled and tossed it into my pocket.
I’m on vacation starting next Friday so I plan to carry this real excellent knife lots in the next couple weeks.

I have been carrying the TEI on a jobsite since the 4th, so I thought I would share a few thoughts about it while I have a few minutes.

The handle finish is holding up well except on the high spots where it has been in contact with other pocket items, or laid down on some steel or the ground. You can see the scratches and finish wear in the high spots. There is also a pretty deep dimple in the end of the knife you can see where the knife was dropped and landed on a rock. The aluminum is relatively soft, so it dinged it pretty good. I also just noticed that it hit hard enough to shift the scales where they are no longer perfectly lined up. This has had zero impact on the action of the knife or the lockup.

The stingray inserts are holding up fine. I don’t really see much wear on them at all. The handle fits my hand very well, and I don’t find the TEI nearly as slippery feeling as the HIGO. I’ll wait to judge the coating until I see how the wear continues with use.

The blade finish is still perfect. I should have wiped it down better before this picture, but I can say there are no issues with the blade finish other than some finish wear on the thumb studs.

The blade edge held up very well until yesterday. Typical tasks included cutting rope, hoses, opening boxes, bags, plastic straps and ties, and slicing limes for cold beer in the evenings. Yesterday, repeated cutting of some fiberglass fire blankets and opening a few bags of grout and aggregate ended up dulling the edge to the point it failed to grab on a fingernail test. With the convex edge geometry, once the sharp edge is gone it is pretty thick behind the edge, so sharpening was needed to be able to keep using the knife. Plastic bags were tearing instead of slicing. I stropped the blade last night at the hotel and brought the edge back. It was not the 3-4 strops that are claimed by Rockstead to get the edge back, but after some time it did come back. Good to go again.

Another shot of some of the high spots of the knife.

The action of the knife has only gotten better with use. Still silky smooth to open and close. Not a hint of blade movement once the lock clicks into place. No lock stick at all. This liner lock is executed perfectly. Action is smooth, easy to flick open even with leather gloves on, and almost feels like it is on bearings instead of washers.

Overall, I like this knife a lot. There is no magical steel in the blade, it will still get dull. It does take some time to keep the edge maintained, but I assume I will get better at that with some practice. The action and ergonomics are fantastic for me. I look forward to using it more and will post another review later after more use.

Have a good weekend.

Thanks for the write up on this, I love seeing Rockstead's that have been used, not something you see all that often.
