EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

So here’s a funky little number from MCUSTA. It’s a Platinum Label “Shiki” Four Seasons, summer version. #4 of 50 made.

I’ve been on the fence with this one since I got it a few years ago. The blade is gorgeous, it’s the brass scales that leave me scratching my head a bit. The etching and inlays are done by hand and the patina is part of the intended theme….but the overall fit and finish strikes me as a bit rudimentary. I don’t know if that’s by design….but my OCD struggles with it.

I’m debating polishing it up and giving the patina a second chance, in hopes it may develop with a bit more consistency. I dunno, anyone have any thoughts on that idea?

Regardless, it stays…despite yesterday being the first day I’d ever carried it. It’s in my pocket now for a quick run to the store, then I’ll decide whether to bust out the rags or let nature take its course.

I got out my two Wayfarers last night as I've had some issues with the full-sized Classic and it shares a two-sided pouch with my 247. The larger knife had a centering issue which I was mostly able to resolve after three dis- and re-assemblies, but I still need to address the too-soft and bendable Mokume clip which keeps me in fear of standing up somewhere and leaving the knife behind. I wrote to Olamic last fall regarding that and a couple mods I was considering and didn't get the answers I'd hoped for. I'll have to re-visit that and re-correspond, but in the meantime I pocketed the 247 Stealth today.

I like this one quite well and It's become a helluva cutter since doing a fairly significant re-profile on its a couple years back with the EdgePro.

Awesome gear. For me, it's that HDS that puts it over the top into excellence.
Thanks. This HDS has been great. Didn’t need it much today, but will likely be using it later when it comes time to cook dinner.

Great day in the woods. Unfortunately, it looks like the mushrooms have already been eaten or are not good anymore. Saw some black trumpets:

Chanterelles, with a turtle:

The water was nice and cold. Stopped and filled up water bottles:

Also saw another bear while headed down a service road:

Didn’t get close and it ran off quickly. I didn’t see any cubs with it today.

Think Ill spend some quality time with the 25 for the next couple weeks…

The 25 was a big departure for CRK, as it was still a "Sebenza" but featured an adjustable pivot plus the combo ceramic ball interface/detent ball. Of course the latter feature pre-dated the 25's introduction in 2012 with the Umnumzaan's release in 2008. I had a PJ 25 like yours that I greatly enjoyed alongside my 21's and Startac but (foolishly?) traded it away in a deal for my 2nd Tabargan. I was lucky to find a Starbenza 25 towards the of the model run and am glad that I have at least one, with two Inkosi's (updated, improved 25 replacements) that I now have to go along with, one of which replaces its PJ ancestor but with an Insingo blade.

Aside from changes in the washers and the angled, partially-off-the-lockbar clip, the greatest improvement IMHO with the Inkosi is the floating stop pin which makes the knife's action much more easily adjustable due to its proximity to the pivot. I'm much more likely to use the included thread locker on the 25's backed-off stop pin than I am to apply it to the pivot screw.

Anyway, I'm rambling here and off-topic some, but enjoy your two weeks with your PJ 25 drop point. Nice knife.

Thank you.

The 25 has really become one of my favorite knives and without a doubt my favorite Sebenza. I love the heft of it. That thick blade and solid lockup just inspire confidence. I am pleased with the improvements that went into the final version to become the Inkosi but I’ll never let this 25 go.
