EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Greetings! Posting for yesterday as it was a long day and also because of the condition my condition was in by the evening ;). My son and I went on a 10 mile or so hike (and up about 4,800 ft) to a beautiful pair of Alpine Lakes. Knives were the Manix2LW, the SE Dragonfly that is always in my pocket, Vic Climber, and my Benchmade something-or-other outdoorsy sounding fixed blade (I can never keep track of these names, I think this one is the Hidden Valley Ranch or something like that) 🤪

Some amazing views on the way up

At the peak looking down into the basin of the first lake (in the clouds at his point)

Then up and out, over another ridge, and a few miles more to the second. By the time we got there it was pushing 1:00, so I went ahead and broke fast with some bison jerky I had made the day before and a few handfuls of wild berries that were bountiful around the lake (up until this point I was fueled only by the black coffee that I had at the trailhead).

Relaxed at the lake for a bit before starting the journey back out.

Then stopped at a nice little spot when we got back to the first lake for a cold plunge

The Climber didn't make its way out of my pocket until back at the trailhead

Then saw some use again back at the pad, after picking up some Philly-cheese gyros and Zucchini fries from the local Greek truck.

Fresh picked fruit for dessert

Then walked over to the park just across the street from the house to take in the serenity of the setting sun on the mountains, and enjoyed a little live concert that was going on at the other side of the park.

Spyderco Polestar today.

3.3" blade of CTS BD1. A layer of carbon fiber laminated onto G10.

I've found this to be a nice Delica alternative. Just a smidge bigger, but I prefer liner locks to back locks. Only thing that bugs me about it is that it's Chinese-made, but no complaints on quality. I also like the less pronounced "Spydie Hump" and not-too-aggressive gimping on the spine where my thumb is. It's a LOT heaver than a Delica, coming in around 4 oz. instead of 2.5.

Even so, I still miss my Delica at times. I've bought & sold one twice, so I think the next time it will have a permanent home in my collection.

^ That's from the days when Gerber gave a damn and I think everything was US-made. I had one of those; sold it a few years ago. It fit the hand great, but needed the sheath to carry it comfortably.

I still remember when I got mine. My brother got an original Gator the same day. I liked the more solid handle of the Magnum. It was late 80s, I think.

Try an Endela instead. They are great.

Cheers- I agree with you sir! These old Portland made Gerbers are a favorite- can still be found in good condition and the nostalgia factor is pretty killer.

Got a gator coming in a few days to keep building the collection. I have been around the horn collecting and recently decided to re-examine the knives of yesterdays. Quality American pocket knives for the win!

Thanks for the reply
