EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

I ended up upgraded two knives today. I just wanted to share what I did just in case someone else runs into these two issues. First GEC 40's have a button on the sheath that is unprotected on the backside (inside), so it can scratch your blade up a bit. I cut a piece of 1mm leather to shape and glued it over the backside of the button to solve that minor issue. Now it slides in and out nice and smooth and the blade doesn't get unnecessarily scratched up for no reason. The knowledge and leather were all thanks to our man Sharp & Fiery Sharp & Fiery . Thank you very much for the leather my friend! It took me forever to actually do it, I know, but it's finally done! Haha

Next, my Kershaw damascus Skyline has always had really bad detent lash. That is, the detent hole is too big for the detent ball, so there is some slop when the knife is closed, and also when you close it quickly the edge hits the backspacer a touch. Well, I fixed that with some leather today too. I cut two small lengths of leather the same shape as the inside of the backspacer and glued and pressed them together to make it thicker. After it dried a bit I chamfered the ends and then glued it to the inside surface of the backspacer. Now the knife has zero detent lash, the detent feels better, and it's no issue (to me) that the edge touches the leather. Worked out real well!

And a couple beauty shots while I was outside tinkering on my motorcycle tonight! Sorry for all the pics, but man that copper patina pops!

I still find myself reaching for the new Scout every morning, so I figured I'd need to at least begin diluting my concentration with another knife or two. This knife is very much a Cheburkov but in many ways curiously evokes my iMamba which in turn has often been compared to CRKs, given its construction, overall feel, as well as its South African connection. Officer's Match Officer's Match had mentioned a Sebenza vibe to this very Cheburkov back when it was his.

So... I ended up spending the day with the Scout, my all-Ti iMamba, and my PJ 31 with Chad Nichols Boomerang Damascus. I've been pondering a thread comparing and contrasting the three, but for now I'll just say that I took and rejected a lotta pics of three knives that look quite similar at hand but present a lot of challenges when trying to share that photographically.

I'll also mention that after tying up a lanyard on the Cheburkov with one of two new beads I'd just received I realized I'd used the same cord, knots, and a similar bead from the same maker on the CRK. I only had a placeholder bead on the AB anyway and figured what-the-heck and tied up another to match. Kinda too much like dressing all your kids the same, maybe...

No apology necessary and good idea with the leather on the back spacer.

Looks great! Glad it worked out. Now it’s time to put some scratches on those blades. :) 😂🤣😁
