Screebo Screebo I keep meaning to ask you about your little feathered friend, although ironically he/she hasn’t been present in your last two posts. Hate to derail the thread, and apologies if it’s been covered before, but what’s its name? What type of bird? How long have you had it…..and how old is it?

I clearly know nothing about pet birds but have always been curious, and every time I see him/her lounging with you I get the impression it’s a pretty tight bond between the two of you….so any insight/info is appreciated. Kinda feel like I know everyone else’s dogs, cats, squirrels, birds and chipmunks…but I must’ve been absent the day your bird was introduced.

And no worries about steering the train astray. I saw somewhere that today was officially dubbed “Feathered Friday”…so bird-talk is deemed thread-relevant and permitted under Article 62(L) of the Forum Bylaws (anyone who’s skeptical can look it up. I wouldn’t make this crap up).

Lol, and thanks in advance.
Hi Zero! Richard Parker (Ricky) is a 9 year old green cheeked Conure. I’ve had him since he was a hatchling. They are a very small parrot about the size of a cockatiel. They usually bond with 1 person as primary. They can be noisy and need to exercise a lot. Rick gets flight privileges and has several perch areas in the house. He is very flighty and not allowed to fly outside or he’d be gone. We’re good friends and he hangs with me if I’m in the house. Since I’m retired I can give him the attention he needs to be happy. I still get bit sometimes as he has a bit of a mean streak around certain man made objects. They can live 30 years. View attachment 2323651

Very cute little guy you have. I used to have a green cheek and a sun conure very cheerful little parrots, sadly passed away years ago. Now I have a male African Grey for the past 24 years also since he was hatchling, he is very bonded to me and for years was a little tough with everybody else. Funny though as an older parrots he likes being pet and played with by almost everybody now. Talks all the time, unlike most greys that tend to be serious he loves music and dances, whistles or sings along with the song. It is really amazing how bright they are.

Ricky’s a great whistle mimic and never misses a chance to wolf whistle at the appropriate times. When I greet him with Hi Rick he answers Hi Buddy. He enjoys my acoustic guitar playing but really gets his head bobbing to reggae music.
