EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Yesterday carried my Pyrite again. I think I need to do something about the detent, it opened up when I put it in my pocket but didn't have it snug against the seam, I noticed when I tried to pull it out and the point caught on the pocket fabric. Then found I can fully open the knife just holding the handle and waving it around in the air.

Oh I agree. This is probably the only day it will come to work. I have a coupe other with Black Micarta that will see enough plant time to make up for this ones easy life.

(Backstory follows, skip if you want)

I bought it off of the Exchange here, when it had gray G-10 scales on it and the original black Grivory ones were included. I had been looking for awhile for blue Grivory, as the G-10 had almost no traction and the black isn’t to my taste.

Finally blue handles showed up on eBay and I dropped the hammer. (Couldn’t find any here or through Benchmade)

I went home Friday for lunch, planning to just do a “scale swap”, but alas! It was not that simple. On this knife, the scales are actually most of the knife; they are scales AND the frame.

It was a good learning experience, but took my whole lunchtime fiddling to get everything aligned for reassembly. I did get the chance to clean out a bunch of pocket lint and lubricate the washers directly. I also learned how the Axis Lock works and would not be afraid to work on another Benchmade in the future, so there’s that.

(Micro Review follows) This has quickly become my favorite non-SAK knife to carry. It doesn’t get in the way in the pocket and takes up very little space, yet it packs a decent size blade for its exterior dimensions. (3.25”) Good blade steel too. It’s not as ergonomic as most Spydercos, but I usually just make a cut or two, then put it back, so it doesn’t matter. It’s not UNcomfortable, but not an all-day user like a Griptilian or Manix 2 can be.


Guys, If I don’t post for a few days, don’t panic. It just means I’m sticking with the Bugout for awhile. ;-)
