Throwback Thursday : Spyderco Endura ZDP-189 from 2008 😊

How do you like the CRK with the thumb hole vs studs ?
Well.... I've been carrying it off and on for about 3 years now and I'm still not sure haha. It's a fun little change, and it has it's ups and downs. The pros are I can spydieflick it from either hand. But really, spydieflicking is the quickest, most reliable opening method. I think if I were to recommend it to someone, I'd tell them to do it to a large CRK because there's just more room on it. On a small Sebenza the hole has to be pretty small, on a large you can get away with a larger hole and then it might work more like opening a Spyderco. I can slowly open it with my thumb now days very well (in a fluid spyderco-like way), but it took a while to get used to it.

Crazy, yes. I’ve changed a ton of knife hardware and it rarely happens, in my experience. My theory is that the after market backspacer holes don’t match the precise tolerances that Oz is known for. Maybe the screws themselves were a bad batch. IDK.

I have great respect for the maker’s quality and the seller from which I bought the knife. Sometimes the stars just don’t line up. Today, I’m throwing the stock backspacer and hardware back on.

The Fix-It Stick Torque Set that I have has a range of 0 to 65 in/lbs. My plan was to torque the body screws to 5 in/lbs and the pivot to 7. I would then back the pivot off slightly for desired action. AI suggested as much.

Well, screw AI !!! I searched again just now and found that Oz does not recommend a specific torque setting. 🤣🤣😂 Anyways, I strongly recommend Oz Machine Company knives and Fix-It Sticks….just not AI search results.

Have a fine day brother. Wish me luck getting the Rosie right. 👍🏼

Yeah I hear ya on the AI results, it's not often that I find that they're super accurate. Most everything I ask that's technical just comes back as sort of generalized knowledge instead of the more specialized knowledge that I'd already read (or that I learn about a little further down the road). Or if it's information on how certain things in the world works, it always puts a political correct, nice and safe mainstream view on it.

Those Fix It sticks also look like they'd be easy to strip a small screw (due to the T-handle on them) if the torque click isn't felt or isn't super accurate. It's sweet though! I like your idea about the backspacer not lining up quite right, that's probably what did it.

Have a good day man!

Yes. I did a floor job for Reagan's conservator of 30 years. From Governor through presidency. Reagan was gifted the knife from Mr Buck. He gave it to my client who knew I loved knives. He said ive held onto this until I found the right person to give it to. It's a longer story but that sums it up. I was honored.
Great stuff! What a treasure.
