I don’t mind that they have done that, they have to evolve, plenty of people willing to pay even here in Australia where you are looking at around $500 Aud for a Leatherman arc and 900+ for a basic Reeve Sebenza.
I have a couple of free series and really like them.
Having said that there is still a place for the basics. If you haven’t handled 1 the rebar is a good basic locking model and smaller than the wave or free p4 and is reminiscent of the originals.
