EDCing a fixed blade; share your experiences!

This. I carry a full size handgun (walther ppq). So no need (or want) to carry a giant fixed blade on me for edc (camping is another story). A good folder or my Izula is all I need for edc.

I dont carry large fixed blades quite as often anymore, because they used to just fill the spot that my 9mm now fills.

I carry a BK24 on a daily basis at work in this lefty leather sheath I made. I wasn't too fond of the stock sheath.

This knife has since had the scales replaced with ipe.

Every day for 9 months now.

Here's the one I carry

3"blade 3.75" handle. Just the right size in my book.

It's lighter than most every folder, comfortable and not prone to bladeplay etc.

May I ask what knife this is? Thanks

If I wanted to carry one, it would probably be the one on the top...the BHK Bushbaby. I like this one because it's small and unobtrusive, and probably large enough for anything that I need on a daily basis...

Again may I ask what are the bottom four knives? Look fantastic!

I've carried a smallish FB every day for roughly the last 3 years along with a folder and a SAK. I carry the FB for things I deem too tough for my folder or SAK. Times I've actually needed it? Once. :-| But I'm still going to carry one. :-)

I've been carrying a small fixed blade on-and-off for years. It slips in my pocket, rides like a small pocketknife (but weighs less), and is securely attached to my belt via a lanyard. No one notices.

Around here it's fairly common to see sheath knives or hunting knives worn in public. No one cares.

This thread goes hand in hand with another about carrying more than one EDC blade. I have been experimenting with a leather pocket sheath that holds the small fixed blade and Alox SA. The ones I carry now are a small Avila EDC or a Childress necker. Maybe a tiny bit heavy, but not not too bulky. A good sheath really makes it work.

I carry a CRK Professional Soldier nearly everyday. As mentioned, a good sheath makes all the difference.

Carrying a fixed blade for EDC is a great option in any way.

I´ve carried several different FBs. From Izula sized over PUMA Jagdnicker to ESEE 3 for a long long time as it is legal here to carry fixed blades with a blade length until 12 cm. :)

The sheath is very important to me. I carry a Böker Plus Pocket Bowie right now in my daypack, but also carried it in my pocket.

 for fixed blade carry!!

I'll tell you a story...

Back when I was married, drinking, and using... I lived minutes walk from my favorite liquor store (and 6 minutes from the grocery store). It was maybe 7AM and I NEEDED alcohol. My liquor store wasn't open yet but the grocery store was... so as I'm crossing the street (at a crosswalk), the only 2 vehicles that were on the road were a Fresno PD and Fresno Sheriff side by side. I'm heavily tattooed, was wearing a Hells Angels support shirt, and had a ZT 9 bayonet on a drop leg sheath.*

I walked right in front of both while they were stopped at a red light. Not a single F was given.

I EDC a ESEE 3 everyday everywhere I go. I carry it in the right knee pocket of my carharts in the stock sheath with the belt clip attached just incase I happen to wear jeans I can carry it at 4 o'clock on the belt. Next month will be a year solid and I have never had anyone say anything to me about it. I made the transition from a griptillian to the 3 after preferring the ergos And overall function. I love my 3 and when it's carried in my side pocket of my carharts it still only takes one hand to get the blade out and one hand to get it back in the sheath.

I carry this one all the time, although I used it in the shop the other day and I seem to have misplaced it......really sucks.

It is my Dart EDC pattern. It carries really well and is super handy. That is a Hale Storm kydex sheath, which are standard on all my knives. This knife is ~0.080" 52100 with a tapered tang and is about 1 oz without the sheath. I'm starting a run right now of them in 1/8" CPM20CV, which is the Crucible version of M390. They should be a killer knife for EDC. If you've never tried a fixed blade for EDC, you should really try it.

I think the idea of a neck knife is silly; but that's just me.

I would want something that would fit in my pocket and not wear it on a belt. I would get something on long the lines of this or an izula.
It's not like you'll need to build a shelter with it. I'm assuming it's more of a city environment.

For edc I've found that I can only comfortably carry a fixed blade clipped inside my front pocket like a folder. As a result, the fixed blades that get carried the most are my Cold Steel Peace Maker III and Ken Warner utility knives, both of which have ambidextrous pocket clip sheaths. Belt carry, whether vertical or horizontal, seems to get in the way for me, and I can't stand having anything hanging around my neck. I wish more smaller FB's came with pocket clip sheaths.

I switch on and off between folder and fb. My preferred fb is either a small puukko or the Enzo necker, which is really a small scandi knife.

Carrying a small fixed blade is a great alternative to folders, if your area allows it. I ended up buying only slipjoints when I lived in town, now that I live again in the countryside, the fixed blades are coming back strong ! In my experience, the best way to EDC a fixed blade is certainly around the neck. But the weight of the knife and sheath combo must be under 3.5 ounces or it gets uncomfortable after some hours. In this class, the great winner certainly is the Fred Perrin Mini Bowie. I don't like belt carry that much because the knife seems to get in the way all too often. However, carrying the knife in the front pocket, in a deep sheath with moneyclip, is just great (small models, only....). In this class, the last I fell in love with is the Böker Beauty. Tiny knife, but so sexy (and sharp !).

I have a few fixed blades and the only one I comfortably carry is my EESE Izula... I've carried it on the neck and in my front pocket. It's a nice size and can handle a variety of tasks without having to worry about action, lockup, or extensive cleaning- it's a nice change of pace from the folders I typically carry. My other's are dedicated to hunting, camping, or "looking at" and are all too big to be EDC's.

Also, I like the Izula because of it's versatility in carrying different ways and I also use the TKC G10 handles which give it more grip and personality without adding much to the weight.

Yeah I've been carrying an Izula for two or three years now, in a variety of different carry methods. On a belt I like to wear it horizontally, but I also like to wear it inside of my hip pocket, clipped to the seem of the pocket. Then recently I've also taken a liking to carry a neck knife.

To be honest the legality is questionable because there's a lot of broad language concerning concealment laws, and also some municipalities don't allow fixed blades. But I've really even had anyone notice them so, it's not really a big issue.

The ESEE 3 is also pretty nice to carry but I also use it more as a dedicated woods knife.

I've been carrying a CRKT Folts Minimalist (Wharncliffe) since I got it mid-2013. I've tried carrying it a couple of different ways, but found that it works best for me as a neck knife. I keep it on the outside of whatever I'm wearing and it's easy to get to even when it's somewhat difficult to get to the Rat II or HO III clipped to the otherwise useless pockets of my jeans, such as when I'm sitting, bending, or crouching. I skip it in situations when it might draw unwanted attention, but otherwise it's with me and most people don't seem to notice it, including a State Trooper guarding the Toys for Tots bin this past Christmas.
