EDC'ing a knife?

Many people look down on knives. It is overall I think looked down upon when you carry a knife for various reasons. I am wondering what are you thoughts on carrying a knife. When do you carry a knife, when do you not? When do you think it would be inappropriate to carry a knife?

Additional Info: Interesting points lads. For me, I use to EDC a knife all the time. I live in more of a rural location and my "job" used it often. I am in a larger city now, and attending University. I no longer EDC because I feel it would be inappropriate to bring a knife onto Campus. Or when a lot of people are around. As I am not use to that really lol. I am a large guy who many people find intimidating even without what some people may consider a "weapon" instead of a tool. So, I feel guilty about them as I don't want it to cause any issues whether that be logical or not.

I carry a knife whenever legally possible or practical. I've had people make some jokes about it, but I've never felt like people were frightened or looked down on me for it. It's a handy tool that frequently proves useful.

It's certainly inappropriate to carry a knife when you cannot legally do so and I'm pretty comfortable abiding by that, and I definitely don't recommend carrying one into an MRI machine, but other than that I basically always have one on me.

This is a rather peculiar post on a knife-centric forum. I find it reasonable to carry a knife anywhere outside of court or state buildings. All that changes is the size/type of knife.

I carry a knife every day, everywhere I go. In fact, I've had the same EDC (a Swiss Army Knife) in my pocket every day for the last 15 years. I always find a use for it.

I teach in a high school. Sometimes when students see my knife they are surprised and say, "Are you allowed to have that?"

Many people don't own many tools. They can't change their own oil. Can't drive a nail or throw a baseball.

I carry several knives every day all day. Usually a multi tool, pocket knife or 2 and fixed blade 5"or less. The only time I don't carry a knife is when it's prohibited by law, such as airport (Thou they are in my checked luggage) a court house, or a school. Other than that my knives are on me, and I don't give a [emoji90] who likes it not.

The last time I drove to work and got halfway there before realizing I had forgotten a knife I started freaking out.

Then I remembered I keep a couple backups in the glove compartment and I was okay.

This is like going to a car forum and asking if people drive cars.

Yes, I carry a pocket knife daily, sometimes more than one. Mine are small and no one who thinks rationally would ever consider them to be weapons. Victorinox Alox Cadet and Case Peanut today, for example.

Yes, but people don't drive cars everywhere :P There are certain situations where people will take a taxi, or rent cars etc. With my current living arrangements/job (updated my thread) I was wondering/thinking is that it one of those situations where you don't bring a knife with you.

I carry my Bad Monkey everywhere I go, if it's someplace where it may be "frowned upon" I simply wear my folder IWB appendix and I must say the design of the Bad Monkey's butt end of the knife how it slants is perfect for IWB carry as not one single bit of frame comes up above the pants line it is perfectly flush I love that damn Bad Monkey!

I hear yah. I'm a big "scary" guy and I'm quiet to boot. I carry a knife all the time wherever it's legal. I live in Portland too. How you act and what knife you carry greatly determines how people see you. Decent looking clothes help too. I carry a sak and use it when I need it. I don't flick open tactical folders in public just cause. Never had an issue.

I live in a state in the US which has no knife restrictions, so I can legally carry anything I want to. What I want to carry is a small utility knife like the Swiss army model I mentioned. If I go places where carrying knives is prohibited by law or by the owner of the property, I won't carry a knife there. It's just a convenience.

You do whatever you feel is right for your situation. In my situation there is no reason for me not to have a pocket knife on me, so I carry one.

OFC I am a responsible person and don't fool around with the knife in Public. I know the majority of laws about knives in Canada (such as it is legal to carry them for non-self defence reasons etc). Does anybody know if University would have special laws for it? Or more likely just socially less acceptable?
