EDC'ing a knife?

If I'm travelling across state lines, I like to double check the laws, but living in the south usually allows for pretty lax laws when it comes to pocket knives. I've carried a pocket knife just about every day for 10-12 years now. My dad and grandpa always carried a small (2" or less) lock back, and I've gotten into the habit myself. When I was younger and working retail, I never got dirty looks or side eyes when I needed to use a pocket knife, and now that I work in the construction industry, it's second nature for everyone to have some kind of blade on them. The only time I've ever gotten any gruff was from some city friends when I remedied a hang nail with a small, clip point folder in a bar one night.

Thats funny, I'm a teacher at a high school as well and I've heard the same comments. Nobody would think twice if I pulled out a box cutter or if I use a dissecting scapel to slice meat, somehow a "knife" is worse than either of those to some people.

Sometimes my students laugh at me and my SAK, like I'm too nerdy to understand that I'm not scaring anybody with my blade. They just can't understand why an English teacher would hold anything other than a red pen.
