I apologise too. I guess once you've heard something a thousand times, you forget that it may not be common knowledge to everyone.
To answer your post. He is referring to Strider Knives. They are the company that CS "borrowed" the design from (Though I believe Joe Byrd claimed to me that Taylor Cutlery was the original designer, but that's a whole 'nuther bag o' crap.).
At the time the copy was written, Mick Strider (the co-owner) was pretty much confirmed to be full of it about his tall tales of military experience. Later the other co-owner was outed too.
When all the personal stuff is ignored, they are both very good knives. While the owners of Strider are not people I would associate myself with, they make very tough knives and have a large following. And while Lynn Thompson is obnoxious and over the top with his advertising, CS also makes some very nice knives, with the GI Tanto being possibly the best bargain going for a hard use knife right now.
