Elusive Schrades

Charlie Sir, I’ve just got off the Plane and settled back home - after seeing these STUNNERS I feel like I’m in the Air again!!!
Those Cocobolo examples are unreal and I ALWAYS Love seeing the Three Blades TL!
Of course all the knives you shared after them are simply stunning as well - What takes the Cake are those Stags! Wow!!!

Eric - that’s a beautiful Knife - it has everything!!!

ea42 ea42 Nice pic and thanks Eric :thumbsup:

I just thought that if you don’t see the patterns on the bolster as well, they’re done prior to assembly. Pretty neet how they did this... wow
My late arrival Robie has the jimping/coining on both, while the 25th OT does not. Pics just for compare.

That's just a result of the more accurate machining methods used by Schrade (post 1970) versus the old hand operated machines. If you were to pull a loupe out I'm sure you'd see some areas where the cutter knicked the bone or the spring on the Schrade. I know I can see it in my example. It's slight but definitely there.
The process of finishing a knife back pretty much makes it impossible to pre-cut those shallow marks. When a knife is assembled the liners are what you could refer to as a guide, with the handle material and springs slightly oversize and proud of the liners. The knife back is ground down until the belt just starts touching the liners. Then a series of finer belts are used until everything is nicely smoothed out and even. Lastly it's buffed. That process would obliterate any coining done beforehand as inevitably during those operations some of the liner is also sanded away.

Eric
