Oh awesome, thank you very much!! It is definitely carbon steel. And I had found the 895 in my research but it always had a spey rather than a pen. You can tell from the kick this clearly is not a reshaped spey.It looks like an 825 if stainless, or an 895 if carbon steel, but with a pen instead of a spey. I don't find an exact match in the catalogs, but several years are missing between 1946 and 1954, which your knife dates to. Could be they just made it with the pen for a couple years, or could be a franken knife. VERY knice!
'Tis a nice jack knife!! Peachy if you will!!I was recently gifted this 294 by a kind and generous knife friend. It's used, but it's a beauty and has a place of honor in my meager collection...

(As soon as I scrub that pesky ink off the EE, it'll be nice "Kentucky mint"!!)![]()
My apologies to the fine people of Kentucky, who got saddled with the term!!!Lol, I was searching for the phrase "Kentucky Mint" to try and explain it to a person (on why they should not sand and buff a very clean antique pocket worn knife.
Of course I find a "Kentucky Mint" reference from Waynorth! (And some perfectly preserved Mint knives with original sales samples with dealers prices on the blades!).
Many thanks toDang Charlie!!! Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor!! That my friend is a fantastic example![]()
