Elusive Schrades

Eric, that peach seed Cut Co is totally off the charts! I'll give you 10 times that 9.00 that is marked on the blade! 🤩

Here is a Schrade Walden "Bowie Folding Hunter" with a shackle and clip to put your belt through.

I stopped by the local knife shop after lunch today. Pat (the owner) was in the process of buying a bunch of knives from a fellow who was selling part of his collection. After the seller left, Pat said, "Go see what I bought." I pretty quickly spotted this pristine, new-in-the-box Old Timer 33OT and just knew I "needed it." I was on the way to the local state park to take some pictures, so while I was there I snapped this one. I think this will be replacing my Buck 303 in my pocket for at least a few days.

A lucky stop!!!:)

This knife has 'loud' Schrade DNA!! Marked/made for A.Field-Progress , This Boy's sheepfoot is missing its bail, and has a slight shadow from being next to a failing celluloid handle for a while, most likely!! Otherwise it is Excellent, Unsharpened in Bernie Levine's lingo!!A Field boy 1.jpgA Field boy 2.jpg
Made in the "golden era" of peachseed!!

8479 GOLD SHAC Schrade Walden lobster
2 3/4 inches closed sleeveboard lobster pattern with shackle. 3 blades; cleaned inside; blades full crocus polished; gold filled patterned handle. A larger pen blade arises from the smaller end of the knife with a long nail pull and single cut swedge. It is tang-stamped SCHRADE over WALDEN over N.Y. on the mark side and STAINLESS over STEEL on the pile side. Arising from the smaller end of the knife and on the same side as the aforementioned larger pen blade is a smaller pen blade with a common or crescent nail pull. It is tang-stamped on both sides in an identical fashion as the larger pen blade. Both blades have crisp opening and closing snap and butt up to their respective spring ends square and flush in a superior fashion. Arising from the same end of the knife as the smaller pen blade, but on the ‘back’ side of the knife is a long slender rigid manicure blade, a file on the inside surface and a cuticle pusher at the tip. It also has a crisp opening and closing snap. The handles are gold filled, meaning that they are clad in sheet gold, rather than a thin gold plating. The designation would be 1/20—10. This means that the weight of the gold is no less than 1/20th of the weight of the knife (or perhaps the weight of the handles alone?), and consists of 10 carat gold. These figures are extracted from the 1936 supplementary pages of the Schrade CutCo Catalog E, and it is assumed that the pattern here, manufactured under the Schrade Walden corporate structure, somewhere in the range of 1950-1953 would be the same as the same pattern under earlier ownership and manufacture. The knife weighs somewhere between 21 and 22 grams. The exact iteration is not found in the earlier catalogs nor in the Schrade Walden catalogs, but is well-known among collectors as a very rare and valuable item. Similar patterns from the CutCo catalog pages furnish us with what would be the correct pattern number. At the smaller end of the knife is a shackle, stamped with a designation regarding the gold content, but I have not been able to read it [Edit: It says 1/25—10 gold filled]. The knife was sold and is here accompanied with a fancy presentation two-piece hinged box. The knife rests in an insert of blue velveteen, and the lid is lined with white silk, imprinted with SCHRADE-WALDEN over THE WORLD’S FINEST KNIVES. The entire set is in perfect ‘mint’ condition with no fingerprints or other signs of oxidation or marring. The case has no scuffing or other marks at the edges.
