Elusive Schrades

That is a beautiful Moose, Eric. Looks like a large frame - how long is it??

Eric, that moose is extremely nice. I really like that pattern, tough to find too.

Did Schrade ever make a peachseed bone peanut?

Yes, here are some catalog cuts plus one I have that's keen kutter stamped. However it may be considered a mini trapper instead of a peanut, I don't know. I was told that this keen kutter marked schrade is only found in the 1942 keen kutter catalog. It's the same knife as a cut co 2943 3/4 or a walden 294 which are trappers, but smaller.

I have this little Shapleigh branded knife that's pretty close.

Charlie, good eye! It's a big-un, 4 5/16". Page 106 in the catalog, 1938 supplement. Pictured as the three blade 81043, bottom of the description lists this 2 blade version, 71043.

Paul and Phil those are amazing examples!!

Oh man! Real nice double switch, Eric! Just mighty fine!!

Nice large Stockman, J!!
Hopefully someone will come along and confirm the pattern. . . . . .

In my Schrade Pocket Knife Catalog, your Knife is numbered as a 8803, the numbering system explains it as follows...

1st Number : 8 = 3 bladed Knife, ( two Blades at one end, and one blade at the other ).
2nd & 3rd Number : 80 indicate the pattern or style of Knife.
4th Number : indicate kind of Handle ( 3 = Bone Stag )
Please see the attached scan - top left...

Actually your knife is as you first described it; it is an 879. The 1926 catalog information earlier posted shows the same knife, but from the earlier Schrade Cut.Co. company, and with a completely different pattern number. Your knife was offered in the Schrade Walden catalogs from 1958 to 1965, but with the genuine bone it would have been from 1958 to possibly as late as 1961, no later. The catalog pages kindly submitted are from the earlier era, not exactly correct for your knife.

Thanks tongueriver that's some good info . I thought it could be a 8803 or the 879 . I think those knives were very similar but different tang stamps . Cut co vs Walden . It's a nice knife with strong pull and snap and tight blades . Once again thank you .

Awesome- thank you for the clarification on that my friend and I am sorry I guided you wrong.
I was only to keen to find out myself :(

No problem Campbell ! I think those knives are almost the same just different tang stamps the cut co being older . The schrades seem a little hard to narrow down the model number and date produced.

Cheers for that- its a good thing, as I didn't pay attention to the stamping- rather the pattern, so again a reminder to me!
Thats a STUNNING knife, what a beautiful Knife, thank you for sharing.
