Emergency Sheath Tutorial?

I've heard of people doing this with PVC pipe before, but never saw an example. It really looks cool! Thanks.

That's a first, using a sprinkler head. Very cool Tyrkon.

Thanks. It was definately awkward. I had to saw off a few pieces but it is completely functional now and not bilky at all.

Note: I just added a pic to post #13 to show what the sprinkler I started with looked like.

I can't believe I forgot to post that.

Well, the ASH being my primary "GO" blade and/or survival knife I made a couple of additions that would make it more useful.

I attached my Leatherman Blast case w/ the Blast inside of course. I tied it really tingt and so far no play. Very secure. And then I tucked my Sweedish Steel into the paracord on the opposite side. Now i have my knife, multi-tool, and fire starter all in one compact package. I blame the multi-tool addition on Guyon. :D I am going to see if I can add a slim led flashlight to the sheath later tonight. ;)

hey ham solo,

get a heat gun. i bought a ryobi for around 25.00.

will save you from all the wonderful fumes and hallucinations from heating the pvc over an open flame.

I think I saw those heat guns at the Lowes by me. I'll have to go check it out. Thanks man. :)

yes, fumes can be fun.

but the heat gun works better, since it heats more evenly.

i tried the boiling water too, but for some reason the kydex cooled and hardened too quickly to be of much use in shaping.

Yeah, using the stove stincks up the house. That didn't lasl long. I ended up using an open flame outside. Plus, I am going to try a soda can to make a small, contained fire to make another Swamp Warden sheath. Just for fun. But not now.

I am off to go on a little hike with the fam and see if I can test out some knives. I just hope I don't get harassed on the trail for my knife. Maybe I should just take the SW. ;)

I know this isn't a Busse, and Bravado will be along soon to scold me :D, but here is a sheath mod I did on my Swamp Warden sheath so I could carry it horizontally.

Posted over on the Swamp forum: I received a sweet little kydex sheath not long ago for my SW. It was originally designed to be a necker. I have made a harness for it as well. But I most often like to carry small knives on my side. I decided to convert my necker sheath into a horizontal carry sheath. I used para-cord instead of a tech-lock to keep the sheath more combact and closer to me. I also did it in such a way so that my belt loop fits inbetween the para-cord, similar to the Spec Ops design, to keep the sheath from sliding around.

I'm going to take this hiking. As soon as the police helicopter and gang unit finishes their business down the street. ;)

As promised... here is some of my homemade kydex. They don't approach the quality and workmanship of a professionally made sheath, but they are functional.

You guys should give it a shot... it is kinda fun and very simple. I mean... even I can do it! ;)

here is mine that I whipped up tonight. Started out w/ an oven temp of 250 and things weren't turning out that great so I turned it up to 275 and the first time it came out and i pressed it everything was perfect. No rattle, awesome retention, plus the best part: it was all free.

on a side note i pressed mine between 2 phonebooks and stood on them.

Thanks to all for the insperation.

Not a Busse, obviously, my TAK-1

kdstrick: Those look awesome. Really! :)

enix: Did it stink up the house using the oven? Excellent job. And I like the free part as well.

Great stuff guys.

I like it. Tak is a good knife too..wicked sharp.

Tyrkon: there was a faint odor when I opened up the oven door but the smell did not go through the house. I also had a few windows open.

Good to know. When I used the burner on top of the oven it stunk up the house a bit. :o
