Emerson Collection

What is the fixedblade(?) 2nd down on the left with the 13 handle shape?

Also.... wow, I must look like this , seeing some of you guys collections.

I've a grand total of one................ so far

:)

That fixed blade is the fixed blade bowie that was ECA knife of the year in 06 IIRC.

What model is that in the second row at the exact bottom? Is it a custom? I know practically nothing about Emerson customs, largely because I might never be able to afford them.. I also noticed that a good, solid Emerson picture thread doesn't exist.. Or am I mistaken?

That knife is a RHINO. I just traded my regular CQC6 for a Super CQC6. I have a FERRRK 7, Commander and I & I Tanto (EDC Tanto). Each have a black finished blade. Looking for a production Persian though. Anybody got one?

Here's my entire Emerson collection.:)

This is my first Emerson.

That blades got the standard "satin" ceramic coating used before the switch to stone washed satin.

Yes, it's called "Satin". But it looks to me like a bead-blasted texture. It's kinda weird, actually. I haven't decided if I like it yet or not.

they are not what i think of as satin either but thats what they call it nonetheless.

i wish they did make productions in real satin though.

Yup, it sure isn't satin as i would think of it but I suppose it's still colser to satin than the balck finish is :p

It is a coating but it's one of the tougher coatings I'v seen on a knife TBH. You will find
it's going to skuff but it won't expose the steel for a looooong time to come.

Thanks for the info, it's good to know that it's a tough coating. But I'm curious, why coat a blade made of 154CM? I was under the impression that this was only necessary with the less corrosion resistant steels like D2.

That's a good question. The coated blade will surface rust anyway. Give me naked steel any day. This is one reason I've asked Reese Weiland to make me a modded CQC-7 blade. The new Stone Washed blades are much nicer, imo.

I suppose it's because a coating takes maintenance down to virtual zero. You don't even really need to worry about corrosion at the pivot. (with in reason of course)

It's also handy if you are using your knife in nasty places that might cause problems for exposed steel, even an un-rusty one like 154.

Just my $.02, but I prefer the true satin finish blades. All you need is a green pad and the finish is back to almost new, but I understand why EKI wants to only offer the black coat and the stonewash finishes. They are keeping the true satin finishes for customs and special editions. I just wish the new ECA knife design was out.

I'm just not too thrilled to find out that the "satin" blade is actually a coated finish. None of the knife retailers state this in their description. I don't like surprises. If I wanted a coated blade, I'd order the black blade version.

The finish is easy enough to buff off if it's something you really don't like.

I took the "satin" coating off my 12 and gave it a true satin finish

That looks sweet. Can you tell me exactly how you did it? I'm really sorry if I've hi-jacked this thread. I hope I haven't offended anyone.
