Anyone else find frame locks and liner locks a bit of a trade off? I always find liner locks more comfortable in the hand, but frame locks easier to operate.
I found that linerlocks are easier for me to open and close. I recently have purchased 5 framelock knives and have to hold them in a specific manner as to not push the lockbar into the blade when opening. When closing the framelock, I find myself fighting more since most have stiffer/stronger tension to them to resist unlocking while twisting on the handle. I have had framelocks unlock on me during use doing counterclockwise curved cuts at work but never linerlocks. I also like my knives to have a little tension/pressure to the pivot as I have also cut myself closing both style of knives hence my love of the 2 detent system that Emerson uses. Some people will argue that a framelock is stronger but I have had my incidents (cuts) and I also grew up using slipjoints (SAK) so I have a idea of how a folding knife is intended to be used. I have also worn out a couple framelocks from being able to apply excessive pressure to the lockbar (firm/hard grip) but haven't with a linerlock simply because that can't happen, the scale is in the way.
I like Ti framelocks, and they are my config of choice, but there are just some designs that arr better as linerlocks. I've even had a couple of custom framelocks that were too thin, modified into a linerlock by adding scales.
Might just have to get one for the collection. Now, I know there are a lot of guys that buy all these knives and just leave them in a box. Anyone else think that's a bit of a waste of a perfectly good knife? I can't really enjoy a knife if I don't get to play with it, lol
Now that I can understand. I plan on getting 2-3 of each model just so when I dro break one, lose it, or mess it up beyond repair I don't have to wait for a new one. But I mean buying knives that you only intend to buy one of, and never intend to use or carry, just leave in the box in a safe. I'm not criticizing, I just don't understand it. Maybe someone can explain that ine to me.
