Emotional attachment . What does it take ?

9/16/16

I contacted CRK asking what models they made that day and if they had a list of distributors they went to, hoping to track one down. They said they don't generally work on Fridays and no knives were made on that date. :(

Does any other manufacturer make note of the specific date of manufacture? I know a few that list the month and year, but the day itself?
PM inbound.

My Delica ZDP, because all of the work that went into making the micarta scales, and the use it has seen...
Also, super smooth action on this one :)

And my PM2, G10 backspacer and Benchmade deep carry clip, i carry this one daily for several years now, wouldn't trade it for any new PM2 that is out there ;)

For me, a knife gains emotional attachment if it were a gift or inherited, long usage, or if it just clicks with me when I pick it up. Out of 130 or so knives in my collection, I can count on one hand how many were gifts, all of which were from my paternal grandfather. These include a 25 year old SAK Tinker, a Buck 112, and a Buck 110.

I used the snot out of the Tinker for 7 or 8 years after I first got it. Almost never used the Bucks because they're too damn heavy. Other knives I own that have earned the vaunted 'companion' status are just about any SAK Classic, a Buck 303 that keeps finding its way into my pocket, my old yellow Pacific Salt, Wenger SI, and drop point Benchmade mini-grip. I still carry the last few on occasion, but I work in an office, and usually don't need much knife.

Obviously, sentimental value. There are certain ones I miss--my first SAK, my first ESEE 6--and I have a particular fondness for my EK&T Companion, my Kizer Gemini, my Jessmuk... but that's because they're good knives. Some of my more expensive knives (CRKs and the like), on the other hand, have no real attachment to me.

I have a beat to snot Emerson CQC-7 that I bought in 2004. I took it with me to Afghanistan in 2006, Iraq in 2008 and 2009. I carried it in India and in the field for years. The tip broke, the blade has been reground many times over, but I can't manage to toss it. In fact it is currently sitting in a few pieces as I ordered new washers for it. I wouldn't really call it "emotional attachment" but I would say it qualifies for deep sentiment.

If you send that bad boy back to Emerson they could give it a complete overhaul for sure!

Actually brought it with me to blade one year to show Ernie. He asked if I wanted it reconditioned....nah. :)

How long did it take for them to get back to you? I asked about my daughters birthday a week or two ago but didn’t hear back. Didn’t know if it takes quite a while or not to hear back. Thanks.

Only took a day or two for mine. You might want to try again. They may have been busy getting ready for NYCKS if they went.

I've mentioned a couple times in threads a while back that my house burnt down a few years ago. I had on me my granny's leatherman tool and the old timer 34OT I had carried for 15 years. Talk about attachment. That kinda stuff makes you ponder. Bazoo
