I forgot about the Hoodlum. I do like that one but I am leaning towards the Junglas too, might try the RTAK first since I get get a good deal on it.
sorry guys but it would be junglas for me too... great ergos, handle, length and the sheath is awesome... besides the fact its virtually indestructible...

I'd hold off and pony up for the junglas rather then the rtak, then again it just comes down to sheath and small handle differences...

And Rowen HT, and an unconditional warranty..:D

How are things going, Rob?

thanks for asking...with all things considered, awesome!!! I'm so thankful for the new year and it couldn't come sooner, though I feel no different I feel encouraged..

once my wife makes a full recovery from her surgeries and is back to work, then I'm going in for my surgery which from what I hear will put me down for a while maybe 6 weeks for a full recovery and therapy..

I have major meniscus damage and a severed acl..

to incorporate both survival and fire into a tin is sparse, though then it again it is a survival tin so the bare minimum is better then nothing..

I used to combine both which is fine, but I feel a separate kit just for fire is better, but what do I know its been close to a year since I've been out in the dirt actually using one.. I'm just trying to bump my post count:)

Yeah I usually have basic survival stuff in whatever pack I'm carrying (and some fire making stuff for that matter) and it's a tough choice what I wan't to be redundant on most. I think I'm just going to throw a couple water purification tablets in with my 'toids kit and call it a day. If I have it on my 9 and I take care of fire and water with it I think Ill probably make out all right in most situations.

That's the winner here. Heck, get it without the sheath and they're under $130. Although the ESEE Sheath is pretty darn good, but I know a lot of people get something customized anyway.

Jeez. All things considered, I guess you are in pretty good shape.

Best wishes for a continued recovery for you and your family!
I still go to your s/f from time to time and look at the photos of your suv...

Someone was watching out for you folks that day.

So im thinking. Is the RTAK not Rowen made?

It's not made in Rowen. I believe Queen Cutlery is the manufacturer, but not 100% positive on that.

You got that right I have no doubt we were spared, if I could have only video taped this thing coming at us you'd see what I mean :D.. and I think it would boost everyone's faith... Lots of mental trauma goes along with something like this, anytime I'm driving around large trucks especially concrete trucks I get around them fast.. My wife especially is psychologically messed up, she's almost had a panic attack here recently, (she just started driving again last week)...

Back to your original question...
I'm looking across the room at three Hoodlums I picked up on speculation after I bought my first. Nice design, and the guy is dead, so the price can only go up. Great knives, but a little thin and light for chopping, if that is what you plan to do. I bought an RTAK once, liked it, but read some stuff on the Web about breakages, so I sold it to a friend and got the Junglas. Best knife move I ever made. While they look very similar, the Junglas has it hands down in feel-in-the-hand.
My suggestion would be to bypass the RTAK and go right for the Junglas.
Interesting that you've chosen to post this on a Becker forum... Did you expect everyone to tell you to get the BK-9??? :D

It may not be tactical enough for your tastes, but if chopping is what you're looking for this is hard to beat.

It will smoke a Junglas.

It does pass eventually. I think I related the story of my bad one right after you survived yours. It took about two years before I could drive at night, pass cars going the other way, without tensing up on the steering wheel and freezing, thinking that the other cars were going to cross the center line and get me.
Takes a long time, but it DOES go away. More common than we think...

I posted it here to get fellow becker heads thoughts. The BK9 is my favorite knife right now, I have owned it for awhile now.
