So, my wife and I were packing for a trip, and as normal, I packed almost all of my knives in my tool roll. I double-checked everything, and loaded it into the car. We got to the courthouse (needed to get something from her friend who works there) and this means that I have to leave my EDC knife in the car as well. When we get back, the rear door is unlocked, but closed, and my tool roll is missing!!!! I alerted the authorities inside the courthouse, but I don't think I'll see my knives again.

Everything I had in there is gone. It wasn't much, but I had: Spyderco Native; 3 Kershaw Leeks; Victorinox Soldier; 3 Byrd Cara Caras in G-10; Boker Subcom; Kershaw Scallion; an old BuckTool; SOG Twitch 2; Cold Steel Bird Knife; SOG Flash 1; and Spyderco Endura 4 (waved). I still have my EDC (a Subcom) and a few survival knives at home, but everything else is gone. How can you get your stuff stolen from you right in front of a courthouse?!

Accuracy is the product of uniformity.

It's sad, and similar to another recent post by Pkdmslf.

The reported lessons learned:
1) Make sure "you" lock your vehicle and check it
2) If you have one, lock your console
3) Don't put all of your stuff in a organizer bag (a quick snag & grab and they have all of it in one swoop)

Sometimes it's unavoidable, but my own thought is Don't leave valuables in your vehicle. If you must, lock them in the trunk.

I think you were lucky and it was a relatively inexpensive lesson learned. Although it sucks and I sympathise, all of your knives are common, easily replaced, and relatively inexpensive. Imagine if you had a dozen discontinued, customs, or rare vintage knives stolen. The silver lining and all that...

Sorry,
-Bob

To add:

You should post the name of the town / neighborhood where the theft occurred. Maybe someone will notice a fresh batch of knives at a local pawn shop. Always a chance...

It was already stated, but I know if I see a tool roll I know exactly what I am looking at. That was my first thought " Oh They recognized what that tool roll was right away." I don't care if all your knives were chinese $2 a piece knives. You got robbed in front of the court house! Man what city and state? if you don't mind sharing that with us. I hope the knives that come next into your life will stay with you as long as you want!!!

This occured in Cincinnati, Ohio. Downtown. There wasn't a trunk in the car (it's a hatchback).

GroovyMR1337: I love the Subcom. It's definitely worth the $24 I paid for it. I even got one for my five-year-old, who wants to put pink handles on hers.
It's still about $460 in knives gone :-(

I will be out of the desert and home before it knows I was there.

I was not meant to be insensitive, but FACTUAL...

I don't take a bedroll full of knives on a trip ..... and I sure don't leave our car unlocked at anytime...

Were there any security cameras at the court house or on the parking lot?

I think he came back to an unlocked car and it was locked before he left.
Man, that blows... =(
Now theres also a criminal whos armed
