Mentioning blood stains, I thought I would have few using a BK7 but to my surprise the only damage was to my lower lip were I found myself biting it while carving intricate spots...

Can't say the same about the BK-2...that tip knows how to bite

When carving I always keep bandaids, antibiotic ointment, and superglue close by.

Great going so far guys, this is shaping up to be our best contest turnout so far, but considering there's only been three, thats still pretty good.

To seal it, or sand it, use your noggin's, fellas. Man existed and done this kinda stuff for centuries before Dremels, belt sanders and polyurethane. Use natural substances, and there are some easy ways to sand something glass smooth. Some will make you go, DOH!!! Why didn't I think of that!!! Just turn those modern minds back to your ancestors way of thinking, and it will come to you, promise.

So far I've learned that the BK11 is pretty good at this task! I expected the handle to be rough on my hands, and it is somewhat. I am experiencing more fatigue than with other knives. But without a real set of scales this is what you get.

Also my cord wrap came loose a time or two, but that's my own fault. I need to work up a better wrap. The blade itself is nice and thin which is ideal for fine work. I should be done soon!

Dude, better to ask for forgivness than beg for permission. Marriage taught me that.

I hear ya on that, but I'd rather not. In some cases I'm more of a better safe than sorry kinda guy, and in this case I think that would apply.

One thing the military drills into your head is integrity. And I think that would apply here, especially since I'm still relatively new to the brotherhood.

Yeah, I get it. I've made myself at home in the grey area.

Nothing other than with the knife, got it.

Saw you mentioned food grade mineral oil earlier. So that's OK ?

I'm not qualified to answer that question, although I don't see the oil as a tool. I mean, Mines gonna get it but I may wait until after the contest is over before I put it on.
A pic I can't use in the contest.

Hey Cobra we had the same idea .....did you read my thoughts or did i read yours? haha i knew i needed to get my stuff uploaded....you beat me to it.

Great minds think alike!!!;):D

Looks good. Funny thing is your other 3. I found some Honey Locust trees
on a recent hike. (giant thorns/spikes sticking out of the tree) I was going to
use some cordage to wrap them together for the tynes. But obviously didn't.

Great minds do think a like. Funny.

Contest ends March 5th, until then, there are only spots being held, not entries ;). Catch ma drift.

If anyone wants to change it up, add to, take away, or redo it from scratch, cool with me. Once its closed, then, like I said, ya'll are just holdin' spots.

:cool::thumbup:

Looks like a great contest, wish I found this a few weeks ago. My Beckers are in the post as of now, so I'll probably not make the window of opportunity. Here's hoping that the next month's contests are just as fun.

By the way, nice carving work, guys! I had no idea one could be as precise with a wide blade like that. Suppose it's all in how far up the blade you hold it. Maybe some kevlar lined leather gloves wold help keep the blade bites away...

Good luck!
