ESEE Arrowheads

I agree Don. This idea has been around for eons and no one seems to be doing it much anymore. It's a good idea that can see some serious use in a kit. Next thing we will be doing is poison darts and flechettes :D

It wasn't to toss water on the fire, either. I love this. Just giving a history lesson. :D

I'm sure you will be making a real rib-splitter of an err-haid. :D

Anything worth doing is worth doing well, maybe you and Mike should Trademark that. :D "Anything worth doing is worth doing well.™" Ha!

You are just full of surprises this week!

All of the steel arrowheads I've ever seen have been thin, 3-dimensional, flimsy affairs that look like razor blades attached to shafts.

That's because most of the steel broadheads made are thin, 3-dimensional, flimsy affairs that are razor blades attached to, well, to a head, then the head to a shaft. :D

Bear made some stainless steel chisel tip broadheads in the 80s, I don't know if they make them now, they had a very thin and much smaller insert into the center of them that was a delta shape. But the two main blades were large and very, very sturdy with that chisel tip...rib-splitter! Just like this one will be...

Don,

Wasn't implying you were tossing water on the fire. Appreciate the history behind such stuff. It just reinforces the usefulness of some things. Not sure why people get away from things that work, such as simple knives. Instead they pursue complicated stuff that really has no value in the real world. I like shit that works and has been tested and proven, period. That's the reason I was absolutely pissed yesterday that the standard RC-3 would not break that glass.

very nice.
I may have to pick up a second job so I can afford some of these pretties (and the pack rat, comprehensive kit, machete, folder, etc...)

I'm still personally shocked by that. But having the window flex like that it makes sense. I've been one of the people saying "anything will break glass dont be stupid" and -knowing- I was right. Then you roll the window down 2" and my brain sits there gap-jawed going 'well...shhhiiiit'

RC5 is now rotated into my trunk kit. If that can't break a window, well I'll baton the roof off.

That's the reason we demand that everything is tested as much as possible before shipping it. That's the reason we do destructive testing on every batch of RC knives.

Don,

I didn't want anyone else to get that idea. ;)

Appreciate the history behind such stuff.

When you advised me to get that one book on Russian Survival Gear - that was an eye-opener. Man, they had a field day during Vietnam, recovering our stuff from the field, downed aircrafts and off of captured pilots - most of their stuff looks just like our's. I just learned that much more about this stuff.

It just reinforces the usefulness of some things. Not sure why people get away from things that work, such as simple knives.

It's just a part of the human condition for the most part. I think it is human nature to overcomplicate things. I used to work in the alarm industry. They started making a vast array of junk, Wells Fargo Alarm Svc. and ADT, simultaneously. If you want a good burglar alarm system, it can't tell you what temperature it is and be set up as a door chime and all that other horseshit. You want a burglar alarm, a meteorologist or a doorman? :D How about just a burglar alarm?

I do like multitools and Swiss Army Knives, I think that is an exception to the rule. But, in general, when you try to get something to do many different things, it does all of them half-assed.

If nothing else, maybe my dumbass assumptions will help someone pack a better tool in their vehicles.

Jeff and Mike these arrowheads are awsome... I am glad to see that a manufacturer finally is using their heads to come up with some practical yet cool items to be used in the wilderness. Keep up the good work , and the new ideas flowing!

Now THAT is a killer idea for an ESEE product right there. I can't wait till they're available.

...Actually I probably won't wait. That's just too good of an idea and I bet I could make some of those. I'LL STILL BUY SOME RC ONES THOUGH!

If you ever design a large chopper...I know where to find ironwood.... *smirk*

You're not alone. Within the last month I've mathmatically proven that even the backside of an RC6 could do the job...twice...and it's wrong by one simple shift.

hey Jeff, it the end tapered? If it is it would be easier to attach to a wooden stick. just splitting it and placing it there then wrap it with some cordage.

That sure beats the big nail with a hack saw notch I keep in my kit!

Looking forward to ordering a couple, they they look like they pierce and hold a good sized fish easily.
A couple lengths of surgical tubing in the kit and spearfishing would doable.

nice work guys!

What is this, a new RAT product every day of December? Awesome!

On the first day of Christmas, Jeff Randall gave to me....

Keep us posted I'd like to order several.

As to the necklace idea. The Aboriginies of Australia used to carry a flint knife of very similar design around their necks as their main survival blade.
