Also makes a decent striker for the RAT Fire Kit

Sweet! I've been wanting to make a spear and have a try at some of the rabbits around here.

Oh what the hell Jeff that would have been great for this trip i'm on. by the why guys have not needed to use my 22lr-410 over under at all and am kind of hungy for those of you that know i'm went out on a 7day tripp with 2days of food. so faw i have only trapped a tinny squal and some birds this is day4. hope to have some good pics for you when i get back p.s would love to test this and put it up aganst Tops Hoffman Harpoon.

Man, this thing is gonna ROCK! :D Can't wait to get my hands on some, there's a ton of practical uses. I really like the fire striker idea, and it's the right size for my fire kit too. Wow.....with all this cool stuff coming out I'm gonna be a lot poorer than I planned on. :D

Depending on price, I'm down for one or two of these.

I've actually been collecting metal bits and various nails for the past week for use in survival kits. A little grinding and Dremeling on some peices and seeing what works.

I doubt I'd be able to make an effective bow and arrow (never mind use it effectively enough to hit anything). Even if I did manage to connect on an animal, there's always the possibility that it just runs off with my arrowhead in it's side. Using a few metal nails or "arrow heads" on a deadfall might up the chances of catching something though and is more realistic for me.

What was that Russian Survival book you mentioned Don? It sounds interesting.

EDIT:
I plan on going all out for a custom tactical sheath also. Folding the arrows/nails in a small length of duct tape.

Not stupid at all, the size 1 is about 13/16" wide. Size 2 will be 1 1/4" wide and size 3 I don't know yet.

For size 3 it might be nifty to make the shank long enough for use as a stand-alone handle with a rounded area behind the barbs for the thumb and forefinger. Maybe something like this.

Length on the shank could be about the length of a widgy pry bar.

But those are just my thoughts on the matter. I'm sure whatever you guys whip up will be, like, 20 times better. :p:cool:

I might suggest adding a little bit more pronounced "T" at the base of it. This, in my mind, would allow for greater grip if used as a small knife with 2 fingers and would probably also allow for an easier and stronger lashing to a pole for a spear/gig.

NICE!

I love it.

When are you going to start the explosive ones like Rambo had?? ;)

Seriously, did you ever think of a spear head? I mean a real spear head, not something that's sort of a knife sort of a spear.

I havent read through everything, maybe it was mentioned but I think the 3 sizes should be sold together.

great idea though I will buy some regadless of how they are packaged.

Of course you didn't invent the arrowhead, but making them as small, beefy survival items, that's something I've never seen before. All of the steel arrowheads I've ever seen have been thin, 3-dimensional, flimsy affairs that look like razor blades attached to shafts.

magnus, zwickey, wensel, stos, and many other traditional archery companies make one-piece cut in impact wicked steel heads that are top quality and damn near indestructible. so much so that all of the cape buffalo hunting I know of is done with the same basic design (which is the basic design as the RAT head)

all of them work extremely well in a small kit for spearing, gigging, etc. a three blade snuffer head can be turned into a very solid barbed speak point.

The one advantage I would see with the RAT design is the increased ability to haft the the head to some sort of shaft as opposed to a tapered insert design common to most bowhunting specific applications.

a set of those would make killer earings on your booth babe there :)

Awesome! I will definitely order a couple of these.

I can hear my wife already "so you think you're an Indian now"...

As well as the cane toads (damn cane toads!) im thinking one small and one large in my survival kit and a small as a pendant.
