ESEE fest

it's definately a relaxed gathering.

If anyone is up for it I KNOW Kaela will want to go hunt for dinasuars again. lol Last year she had Richard looking for penguins too.

We are considering bringing our kayaks and/or canoe. I don't know though since my truck is out of commission until the end of the month. We'll talk about it this weekend I guess.

OK. We went to stubblefield today. There were a lot of ppl out and about since the weather was nice.

Here is what we've learned.

Directions:

Coming South on 45- Exit @ New Waverly exit for Highway 1375. Take 1375 West

Going North on 45- Exit # 102 New Waverly to 1375 West.

from there Go about 10 miles on 1375 west make a R just after the sign that says Stubblefield. Go R at the first fork. Stay R at the second fork. cross the bridge and make the first left into the "overflow camping" area.

-There are NO TABLES! If you have a folding table BRING IT!

-We also couldn't find a water spigot. So If you're able to bring water in for cooking, dishwashing and such that would be perfet. It says there's drinking water available but the only thing we saw was a bath house with a water fountain. We didn't drive through the entire campground so there could be one somewhere other then where we were.

-It is a National park. The signs says "no weapons permitted in the park."

-The bathrooms are clean and usable, however you'll have to drive to them from where we're camping (especially if ya gotta go bad!).

-Our hope is that we'll get there early enough to dominate the overflow area. We are going to be there early thursday afternoon. We will have 3 tents with us. We will place 1 tent on each site. When 1066vik and Cricketdave get there I will have them place their tents on 2 more sites. That way we'll take up 5 sites and we will be able to put the tents of the people getting there Friday in btwn the tents that are already there.

We went grocery shopping today. I will be providing baked potatoes with the fixings for Saturday night's dinner. I will also be making brisket. I got a 12 pack of Corona Light, 12 pack of Landshark, and 3 seperate 6 packs of different smirnoff. Hurry up thursday!

This really sounds like fun. Wish i could make it since its only about 20 minutes from me.

just FYI though, that "No Weapons" sign doesnt really mean anything any more. you can no bring a gun for "protection" purposes.

I am just passing along what the papers and signs say. What ppl chose to do is on them.

You could come for a few hours. Even if you can't stay overnight you're more then welcome to join us.

This sure sound like it will be a fun outing. I wish that PA was closer to TX.

As of 2/22/2010 a change in Federal law went into effect that removes the Federal ban on firearms in all National Parks. The law now allow the state laws to cover the National Park property in each state. HOWEVER you still may not legally carry (concealed or open) in any National Park buildings.

Here in PA we can now finally conceal or open carry at Valley Forge National Park for example. We just can not carry in the visitor's center building.

I AM NOT A Lawyer so do your own research.

Have a great time at the outing and be safe and take lots of picture for those of us who have to attend virtually.

Just heard from the officer in charge of Stubblefield campground. As long as you have a valid CHL you can carry in the campground.

Don't forget anything. lol. The closests walmart/food stores are not that close. By all means you can go out and get stuff but you'll be gone for at least 3 hours btwn driving and shopping.
